twitter trust and safety is all sorts of garbage incompetent. maybe they handle the stock DMCA processing/CSAM reporting/whatever stuff okay, but the way they handle suspensions outside of that sort of cut and dry poo poo is looooooooool also, things appear to have escalated more quickly than i expected. im not sure what exactly i expected but uh, poo poo appears to have kicked off rather quickly. a lot so.

Why don't any of these clods ever try to rig their elections so they look believable? Like winning with 55% or 61% of the vote would be perfectly adequate and way less suspicious but no, gotta go for a ridiculous blowout.

So one explanation I have heard for this tendency in other countries, is that wracking up high scores isn't just about looking popular. They also want to all the mid-level political flunkies to demonstrate their fealty by delivering those votes. The act of amassing impossible margins is the self evident proof of their authority over the mafia parastate behind the official titles. But of course motivations depend a lot on the place and leader you want to talk about and I don't know enough about Belarus specifically to say that is what is happening here.

The internet is still very patchy today in Belarus. It seems that they've somehow succeeded where Russia failed, and actually blocked telegram. The final results will be revealed on the 14th, so I'm more than sure there will be more protests all over the country. I've read reports that after lowering their shields, riot police just went on the offensive and started arresting everyone indiscriminately. So maybe it was a tactic to calm people down until reinforcements arrived.
