fall guys is just the netflix effect finally happening to console subscriptions, getting launched by the network effect of having everyone grab it off ps plus to have the gamer equivalent of water cooler talk.

Fuzzy Mammal posted:they really hosed it all up. and people are excited for the rerelease of diablo 2 for some reason. there was something magical about diablo 2. i think for me it was the first game wher i could smash an imp and have a chance at getting a really good item upgrade out of it. i don't think it could have the same effect, now that there are 9000 diablo knock-offs. one time my little brother's barbarian got a unique maul called "bonesnap" after a boss fight, and after that we played co-op and he went around beating the living poo poo out of everything. that was cool.

I really liked diablo 2, only playing it single-player at a single-player pace, and then i went over to my friend's house and he was like "wanna watch me play diablo" and i was like "uh not really but okay" and he went online with his max level character and started farming loot for an hour and it just completely took the magic out of the game.

People who play on-line multi-player games are all sociopaths. Unless it's co-op.

both path of exile and grim dawn are pretty good evolved clones of d2 (i prefer gd, but its hard to beat the price of poe)

My only Diablo-like was Titan Quest, which was really an entertaining singleplayer play-through but drat it was a long slog (Steam has me at 42hrs but some of that was newgame+ futzing); I wish it had included a hidden counter of every mouseclick you made in-game, I bet it took a significant percentage of my mouse button life. Idk if I'd pay the full asking for it but if you dig on Diabolo clones put this on your ITAD watchlist: https://isthereanydeal.com/game/titanquestanniversaryedition/info/ fake edit: fanatical has a key for a decent price right now: https://www.fanatical.com/en/game/titan-quest-anniversary-edition

Shinku ABOOKEN posted:every time i pick up my switch to play any other game some mysterious force makes me play tetris 99 instead until my hands cramp there is a Tetris Royale game (just called “Tetris”) that combines Tetris99 with an HQ-trivia-esque setup and it’s actually really good. it’s by N3TWORK and on the iOS and Android app stores it’s just straight Tetris, last man standing, no sending bricks or stuff like that. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tetris/id1491074310 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.n3twork.tetris

diablo 2 is still fun if you get one of the total conversions so there's more interesting drops and play it single player or with friends who arent going to farm/cheat in overpowered items. like most of these things the magic is in finding stuff that feels powerful to you and not trying to minmax versus 7 billion people path of exile is one of those games that feels like it was specifically designed to prove to you that you don't actually want what you think you want. if you asked me what id want in diablo 2 successor instead of diablo 3, id probably describe poe, but it is so loving bland. i think i have 60 hours in it and can not remember a single second titan quest had a fun setting, but again i cant remember poo poo from it other than it felt too slow for an arpg

i liked titan quest a lot cause you could do the dual specializations, so you could be a fire warrior or a shield druid or a lightning necromancer and a bunch of other combinations

are there still dumb robots that attack you in no mans sky?I kinda wanna just putz around in space and mining on planets and not engage with the combat mechanics because they are bad. alternate question: is combat non-terrible now?

i loved the escape velocity games and, like subnautica, i wish i could go back and play them for the first time again because now i know everything about them and they're easy. still fun, but hard to find a challenge. like in nova all you do is: 1. haul luxury goods from europa to earth a dozen times until you have like 50k 2. hire 5 cargo drones, repeat until you have about 150k 3. release the cargo drones, hire the cheapest most busted-rear end terrapin, switch to trading medical goods and luxury goods between earth and new ireland 4. continue hiring terrapins and running that loop until you have like a million bucks (20 minutes) 5. release all the terrapins, buy a valkyrie or starbridge, load it up with marine platoons, hire a couple of fighter escorts 6. go into an uninhabited system on a trade route and wait for an un-escorted leviathan to come by, then capture it as escort (pegasus works too) 7. go back to doing the earth/new ireland run with your giant new ship (you will now have to pay a 4000 credit bribe to land on earth but lol) 8. make 100 million credits in about another 20 minutes 9. congration you are 1 hour into the game and can buy everything and missions have no meaning still fun though.

reminds me a lot of Uplink in that sense. if you buy a level 4 log deleter and the stuff required to hack banks before you do the one "trace a large transaction" unique mission, you can trace the transaction and then just steal all the money that was transferred and erase your tracks and oop look i now haveenough money to buy every single computer and software upgrade in the first 30 minutes of the game. welp
