You need to be able to rapidly spin up and spin down the economy based on community conditions. "Yesterday you said eggs were bad for us" is still a running joke in most of America, I have little to no faith the public will buy into the idea of businesses opening and closing based on things they cannot see. This lack of buy in from the public makes enforcement and compliance that much harder. We also just don't have the intelligence needed to react in anything resembling a rapid fashion. There is literally no national tracing system (which is going to be real awkward in a week when everyone goes home from Sturgis) and obviously state systems vary wildly in quality. Also, depending on where you live, it might take a week to get a test back, which makes them effectively useless in preventing community spread. Yeah, I get that I just said both of the most obvious solutions are pipe dreams. To be clear - I strongly believe we are completely and totally hosed from this disease. Given where we started this thing, I literally do not think there is a politically and practically viable solution that prevents constant death/misery. Eat Arbys. On one hand, people have to go back to work because Mitch McConnell has decided that people, organizations, and even local/state governments should face destabilizing failure if they don't. On the bright side, though, America isn't the only country on earth. Tokyo Disneyland cancelled Christmas but is operating fine. Japan is mostly operating fine. New Zealand has things open. It is not perfect. Though NZ has cases down to basically zero, they can not have any international travel whatsoever and are basically now an island isolated, but people can go outside there and live their lives like before. Disney World is actually in a pretty good position on paper, because to many Americans domestic travel is considered tourism. However the reality is that nearly all the big USA tourist states (Florida, Nevada, California, Hawaii) are currently on everybody else's 14-day quarantine list. While enforcement is shoddy and punitive measures are rare, the state is basically asking you to not work for the next 14 days following your return home, if you don't have a work-from-home job. The lack of federal response is the problem here. In the short-term, it would be in the benefit of tourist-driven states to work with the states they pull the largest share of tourism from to maintain similar rules and policies, so that someone who is in one state can enter another and come back without needing to quarantine. Between the tourism market and the retirees, I have to imagine New York sends a lot of visitors to Florida. So if New York is making everyone wear masks, then Florida has an economic interest in doing the same regardless of what the local voters think. Sure, the tables are spaced out, but some models are showing that it doesn't matter how much you space those tables out. If we had a decent treatment for this thing, not even necessarily a vaccine, I'd be so much more relaxed about this. But we really don't.

Lots of countries that aren't anti-intelligence or science skeptical have reopened restaurants, and they haven't been the problem other facilities (nursing homes especially) have been. Although you have some unusual regulations like the Netherlands apparently limiting restaurants to 30 guests regardless of it's size.

Keep in mind that at all times we are 4-6 weeks away from beating the pandemic. It would require a shutdown. It would require getting a national test and trace program up and running during the shutdown. It would require faster tests. We cannot follow the model of the rest of the world without shutting down to crush the virus first. Maybe this seems impossible now but with growing unrest, expired unemployment benefits, and an eviction crisis looming, it could become the more palatable option.

I think all the Chinese and Japanese joints are closed except for Katsura. Looking at the others listed.. Marrakesh is closed. Is Spice Road Table a decent substitute for that? I'll check out the menu on Napoli. I don't know if we're going to want Italian. Coral Reef menu didn't wow me. I assume you're here more for the atmosphere? The fish and chips stand is closed, but the restaurant is open. I did want to try the fish. I'll put this on my list. Le Cellier is on my list already. I'm down for steak. Thanks goons. I was really hoping on Space 220 but that ain't happening any time soon.

we really like Rose & Crown, Les Chefs de France, Coral Reef, that place inside Mexico, Les Halles Boulangerie....the pizza place in italy. We're hoping the German buffet changes back to menu. I don't think we'd ever go to Le Cellier. I can eat steak anywhere. My wife wants to go to that insanely expensive new Japanese place but I'm not sure we will anytime soon.

I've probably spent five hours just sitting on hold with Disney since Monday trying to get my AP refund. Every time it just disconnects or I simply don't have time to wait any longer. I did email customer service before the last day you could return the passes saying I've been trying to reach someone. Especially with that on record, they'll work with me right? This is already difficult enough, please don't make it any more frustrating Disney

I threw in the towel on that refund without even trying. We only had about a month and a half of our DVC priced gold pass anyway, so it would have been like $80 each or some such.

Those two resorts are massive bookings for companies doing meetings/retreats as well. It makes a lot of sense. Portofino had a ton of construction going on when I visited in March, and they were going to phase open Dockside in March - so if CB, HR, RP, and Surfside are doing the trick - with low out of state folks, it makes sense.
