I don't think this can do anything but hurt them in the long run. Old people hate the USPS because they hate everything. The truth is they rely on to to receive their benefit checks, get their medication, and pay their bills. The republican plan has obviously always been to kill the USPS a with a death by a thousand cuts, and then contract out the mail to private companies that end up costing the US 10x as much as the USPS ever did. But now they're rushing ahead and totally decapitating it, completely loving up the timing. There is no possible way to implement the second part of the plan, so we're just going to end up with a broken system that millions of americans relied on to function. This is a huge deal and I don't understand why the press is pretty much ignoring it. Arven fucked around with this message at 16:10 on Aug 13, 2020 |

Here's my version of what's going on in the media world: https://twitter.com/Tierney_Megan/status/1293929889171738625?s=19 The problem is that some post offices are getting turbofucked and some post offices are fine. Some city/county election boards are fine, others are getting turbofucked. The "media" is still in fact-finding mode. A lot of this poo poo could be explained by the new Postmaster General / Donnie Donor doing hyperaggressive cost-cutting, but also could be him loving with things to prep for a hosed October/November. The changes going on are really weird to parse. Donnie now upended all of that by taking a friendly interview on Fox News and running his yapper about what he really thought. Give it a few days.

Sturgis update: The first load of early "bikers" are leaving, most have been here since Sunday. They have access to COVID testing for $45 at a car dealership to see if they will spread it back home. There are thousands streaming in mid-week to replace them that will be here until Saturday. Sunday is generally regarded as "locals" night but I know lots of locals who have made the trek to see such awesome bands as Trapt, Smash Mouth, Puddle of Mudd and Leonard Skinnard. Numbers are down only like 4%, if that. Could even be less. They are all over Rapid City and lol, masks. I went out to get booze and food Wednesday and saw lots of out of state plates with riders not bothering to mask up when they came in the liquor store. Estimates based on last year are probably going to top 250,000 people. They are all over the region, riding around the state and national parks and all throughout the roads. Somebody mentioned that this is the largest gathering in the last five months and I believe that. And nearly all of the Sturgis people are boomers. I've seen only a few people that would be younger. Lots of trump poo poo from this crowd as well. Ugh. My school is opening for business next week. My kid's school is opening September 8th. I am so amped up with anxiety that my ability to prep for the school year is being compromised, in other words I am shutting down rather than working. Been reading alot about the battle of Jutland and the Columbine shooting instead.

Gordon dives deep into the late Victorian culture of the RN as a root cause of the failure to win a decisive blow against the High Seas Fleet. He concentrates mainly on signals vs. mission command. https://www.amazon.com/Castles-Steel-Britain-Germany-Winning/dp/0345408780/ref=sr_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=jutland&qid=1597335684&sr=8-15 Massie is way more accessible and very good to boot. He hits on the difference between Beatty and Jellicoe. Also the US Navy officer's reefer jacket was directly influenced by Beatty's three button jacket. https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Bo..._-srp1-_-title1 Holloway's book is considered by some to be the definitive account. Of the hundreds of bikes I saw heading north towards SD, I saw maybe a dozen that were for sure under the age of 50. The one dude I saw that might be in his late 30's or early 40's was wearing an Angels vest. Even in a normal year, Sturgis is mostly old white dudes. I know a handful of gen x types that got and like one or two younger dudes, but motorcycle rallies seem like a relic of the 60s and 70s, so it makes sense that boomers would be the ones going. I know a bunch of the smaller rallies died off a decade or two back, I wonder if the bigger ones will be able to survive much longer?
