if you don't want to be pushed up against the cage then maybe you should use some of your world class wrestling to stop it?

He overcame a lot. Most notably saved by the bell by knockout at last second and having his eye almost ripped out of his socket. But at the end of the day it's who performed better not who overcame that most, it that was Stipe.

He was outsped by a fat, retired, unconscious man and spent most of the rounds he won walling and stalling, it’s a good win, but a very ooor game plan where he didn’t capitalise on a compromised opponent and ended up just as gassed as a man who notoriously gasses hard.

Cormier had better hand speed in the other fights too. He just has faster hands. Stipe did a great job mitigating that and managing the fight to a win.

I wish we could have the conversation about how impossibly irresponsible it was of DC's corner to send him back out when he'd straight-up told them he was blind in one eye because someone shoved their loving hand through it, but this is MMA and we're still fuckin' years and probably a fighter's union away from it

That's not going to change with a fighters union. The NFL has a union and Ronnie Lott literally cut a finger off to keep playing.

He was getting consistently hit by a guy shorter, with small reach, who was blind in one eye, that’s not a great job mitigating hand speed.

Bisping's problems were greatly compounded by the fact that he didn't want to get surgery on it and interrupt his fighting career so he lied and faked his way through it for so long to the point where he was completely hosed.

What should he have done then? He comfortably won the loving fight with his approach and damaged DC badly even before the eye poke while not taking on a ton of damage himself lol
