Sorry to go back a couple of pages. Also I don't want to go too deep into identity politics when this is just a picture of a moron getting owned.

But what point is Dinesh trying to make? Apart from the stupid attach helicopter joke? Is he trying to make some sort of point based on her ethnicity, and maybe(?) paint her as some kind of racist for denying or minimizing her Indian heritage?

She is dark skinned. Which in the eyes of many Americans, indeed in the eyes of the racists that Dinesh is trying to appeal to, already makes her an "other" and "less than" But Dinesh is saying "Look, she identifies as this thing that she is CLEARLY not! How dare she call herself a n*gger, when she is merely an Octaroon." trying to paint her as the racist. Clearly missing the point that 1)talking about her only in relation to her race is racist, 2)only the hardest core of racists care that much about blood and purity etc. and 3)she would have been made to sit at the back of the bus anyway, so she does know a bit about racial inequality/persecution.

Also, if she had played up the fact that her mum is from Chennai, these same people would be shouting "You aren't properly American! Get out foreigner!" at her.

I thought he said that educated cosmopolitan people like Trump know that it is pronounced Thighland.

Honestly found this argument surprising since that kind of explanation wouldn't sit right with fascists given that there's a problem with being an (((educated cosmopolitan))). But then again, Dinesh is a hack who will say anything, and the same goes for fascists.

He said that in the first tweet. In the second tweet, he said just all Americans do it. Or something like that.

Basically, he replied to his own tweet with a completely conflicting explanation.

Voice actor. Looking at her IMDB she seems like she's one of those perennial 'Additional Voices' actors, where all the named characters she plays are in things you've never heard of, and all the things she's in you've heard of she plays miscellaneous randos in.

The only part of things I disagree with is the 'if it's not available in your region, too bad', because that happens with a lot of anime and is genuinely frustrating, at least show some sympathy on that. It's a medium where even the quintessential stuff gets weirdly evasive internationally, and it sucks.

615$ donations a month. To what? Poor people? Twitch streamers? The local bar?

My understanding in dealing with people who have high income is that donations are one method to ensure you stay below certain tax thresholds; then claimed as a tax deduction. E.g - earned $100k this year? You might go into the 'high earner' threshold and have to pay a higher percentage of income tax than someone who was in the medium threshold, but if you donate a large portion of your income - enough to keep you below that threshold - you pay less income tax. The 'charity' could be something they benefit from in a roundabout way, like donations to a local sports club, or a foundation in their area which might help a friend with an interest in doing politics or developing a business, a school they might plan on sending their children to, etc. Instead of the money going into tax and being used by various levels of government for whatever projects they decide, the person chooses how to direct their own money into the community.

I've been used as a tax mule (a term I just made up) by my own dad before in this way, where he got me to sign some documents 'for tax stuff' and put some assets in my name so that he would be below a certain income threshold for that financial year, and then after his tax return was complete the assets were signed back into his name. It was only later that I realised this was the case, because I got asked about some assets I had never heard of when applying for a loan later next year. I simply didn't understand the process at the time and obviously trusted my parent not to do something like that without explaining it to me first.

This is not how tax brackets work. Unless there is outright fraud, donations to an arms-length charity can never leave you with more money in your pocket than not donating it, or if you have a greater than 100% marginal tax rate (which I don’t think is the case anywhere in the world, not that it’s necessarily a terrible idea).

You're right, I didn't word that very well. That's what the second part is about. Obviously the person doesn't have the money any more because they gave it away - but they give it away to something that will benefit them, or arrange it so that they will get that money back in the future (I guess in my case it wasn't a donation, it was a transfer of assets).

I don't know who the other person is meant to be, but you can see everything about the shape and size of their face structure, and the V neck top shows body confidence.

Do you live somewhere with a wealth tax? I don’t understand how the transfer of assets would be advantageous from a tax perspective otherwise.

It's how a lot of people think tax brackets work regardless, so you can't rule it out completely. Particularly in the case of a parent who's moving their assets around to look less wealthy than they are. But for everyone else it's just outright avoiding taxes by claiming something bought or done for your own benefit is actually charity, so you can count it as a deduction. He's not writing a $600 dollar check to the food bank every month. It's something like a church tithe, or a club donation that's an expense you need to pay for social reasons but structured so you can claim it as charity.

You can donate in a way that benefits you without putting money in your pocket. For example you can donate money to the church you attend. This money will be used for operating expenses and improvements to a service you consume. A church isn't just a church, the church I attended as a kid had an indoor basketball court and a banquet hall. I've heard of churches that have a swimming pool and a full gym. That stuff isn't open to the local community, the kids that live next door can't come play, it's effectively a members only club. Imagine if your gym membership was a tax deductible donation, lol.

Or if you're rich enough you can donate money to a charity you control outright and then have the charity hire your useless relatives for dumb jobs that pay $100,000 a year, possibly leaving you in a better financial situation than if you just gave those relatives an allowance directly. A charity where 90% of the money goes to staff salaries and administrative costs is still legally a charity.

I'm a white, male veteran (wrong military, but I deployed several times which outweighs a lot) so I got off quite easy as one of the good ones yes, despite being an insane socialist who 'just doesn't get how it works here'. I did get some hilarious questions though such as 'are people allowed to own property in Norway' or 'Are Christians allowed into the country?' referring to me maybe bringing my then girlfriend back to Europe with me.
