That's why I thought it would be appropriate, but sometimes a game is Eversion and outright lies in the advertisements. Plus it's openly a game about the unhappy dead, so a scary-by-toddler-standards zombie/ghost/skeleton could still be in. An hour or so in it still seems perfect, though.

I know this is a petty microcosm of a thing compared to the actual issues, but I literally have Arkham City installed in preparation for another playthrough (having just done Asylum, naturally) and it would be nice if just once I could sink into an open world game that wasn't made by incredibly awful studios. Now it's in the same lovely limbo as all of my Ubisoft games.

So far, Insomniac hasn't shown any sign of being terrible. Haven't heard anything about Guerrilla, but I haven't paid as much attention to them. Hope you got a PS4!

Tbh, that wasn't a call for open world game recommendations, I've got more than enough in my backlog. Just I've been jonesing for something more comfy and familiar to sink my teeth into, and the Arkham games were a good fit for that.

It's an unfortunate probability that studios like Ubisoft and Rocksteady (and Riot and Netherrealm and et al and et al and et al) are merely the ones that have been outed, at that level of production at least, rather than exceptions. I'm not saying you shouldn't do as your conscience dictates thereby, mind you.

You shouldn't give money to terrible people, but there's nothing intrinsically wrong with experiencing media made by a bad person. Like, Orson Scott Card is an rear end in a top hat homophobe but Ender's Game is still a great book and worth reading. Just don't pay him money for a copy of it. If you already have Arkham City then just playing it isn't gonna put any more money in Ubisoft management's pockets or enable them any further.

Remnant talk was a few pages ago but does anyone know how the level scaling in multiplayer works? If I've played through the first couple of areas and have a +10 gun, can I feasibly co-op with a buddy who's just started the campaign, or should I reroll a new character for that?

So, maybe a dumb question about RAM: How bad is it to mix RAM frequency? I brought a new PC earlier this year with the money that was supposed to go towards a vacation before the world went to poo poo, I saved the RAM from my old PC, they both DDR4 and even looks to be the same type from Corsair, except the RAM in the new PC is higher frequency. So, would it be a problem if I threw the RAM from my old PC in to give me 32GB if the old RAM is lower frequency than the new RAM?
|
# ? Aug 20, 2020 06:54 |
|
It depends how much slower the old RAM is. All of the RAM will run at the frequency/timings of the slowest stick, and maybe even slower since running four sticks can be more fiddly than two. It should work, though - you could always give a go and see what sort of performance you get.

Generally speaking, faster RAM is almost universally better than slower RAM. It does have a pretty impact on FPS.

Cardiovorax posted:Generally speaking, faster RAM is almost universally better than slower RAM. It does have a pretty impact on FPS. It depends heavily on the game and how much faster we're talking about. To see an appreciable performance boost, RAM needs to be a limiting factor and usage needs scale in a way that reduce the bottleneck. For most games there will be a minor performance boost going from 2600 to 3000/3200, but only a few games benefit after that (and then only when you're bumping up against the CPU/RAM limit with a powerful GPU or lower resolution/settings). Even then, the biggest gains are boosting tRFC, a secondary timing - in the techspot benchmarks RAM running at 3000 with boosted tRFC performed better than any other speed except the very top-end 4000 kit! tRFC is finicky though - it's the number of cycles between mandatory RAM refreshes so setting it too high can cause data corruption. If you're playing at a high resolution or are otherwise regularly bottlenecked by your GPU, faster RAM is generally not going to be noticeable at all. E: That said, 32GB vs 16GB is also not going to have a noticeable impact on performance unless you’re actively running a lot of stuff in the background. I don't even think there's any RAM kit that you could triple the speed of. My guess is that you saw the non-doubled data rate and got a 50% speedup.

The impact of RAM speed varies a lot between applications and processors. AMD's zen processors really benefit a lot from it, as do Dwarf Fortress and Arma3. Unrelated: The game is indeed very . But I dislike how Unity still can't do smooth 2D.

But yeah, make sure you have XMP profile enabled in bios too or it’ll be running at something around 2133 max (depending on CPU). Between that and the Double Data Rate it could definitely look like a third of the advertised speed.

Most of what’s jacked up about that port is memory-related.

The Joe Man posted:Just a heads up that your dual-channel RAM is going to say it's running at half-speed even when it's not. 1600MHz is likely going to show 800MHz. It's because DDR RAM runs at the same clock rate as single channel RAM, it just clocks data in and out on positive AND negative edges of the clock thus doubling the speed (here is a little overview). An easy way to think of it is that they run at the same speed but the DDR gets twice as much work done.

I thought I had a reasonably thick skin with Spiritfarer because the subject matter hints at themes of death, but the coating is so pleasant and Stella is such a constant joy in everything she does but dear god did Alice's last few quests and ending wreck me. The sudden mood shift after remembering the adventure stories, and then having to escort her everywhere, shifting her room to the bottom floor so she wouldn't have to do stairs anymore, the forgetfulness/dementia. It absolutely wrecked me. And when the part at the end with the Everstone where you have to dress up as her daughter, because she think's you're her... But I think this really depends on how you have come into contact irl with this type of stuff I really like this game Dackel fucked around with this message at 12:05 on Aug 20, 2020 |
