That's why I thought it would be appropriate, but sometimes a game is Eversion and outright lies in the advertisements. Plus it's openly a game about the unhappy dead, so a scary-by-toddler-standards zombie/ghost/skeleton could still be in. An hour or so in it still seems perfect, though.

Nnnnnnope! Tbh, that wasn't a call for open world game recommendations, I've got more than enough in my backlog. Just I've been jonesing for something more comfy and familiar to sink my teeth into, and the Arkham games were a good fit for that.

I really want to try it but can't right now. It’s pretty chill and fun. Sail your boat around, collect goods, build your boat buildings, and get spirits or whatever.

I’m playing on gamepass, don’t know that I’d pay 30$ for it.

if it helps the dev who made that video pointed out that the actual team making the games are fantastic people, and it's their work you're enjoying. The problem is with management and a handful of people making things terrible for everyone else, and tainting their effort and creative work in the process. It's a personal thing but they already have your money (hopefully it paid the devs who had to go through all that) so maybe you can just enjoy it for the thing nice people created and not all the garbage surrounding it?

It's an unfortunate probability that studios like Ubisoft and Rocksteady (and Riot and Netherrealm and et al and et al and et al) are merely the ones that have been outed, at that level of production at least, rather than exceptions. I'm not saying you shouldn't do as your conscience dictates thereby, mind you.

Death of the author is a thing.
You shouldn't give money to terrible people, but there's nothing intrinsically wrong with experiencing media made by a bad person. Like, Orson Scott Card is an rear end in a top hat homophobe but Ender's Game is still a great book and worth reading. Just don't pay him money for a copy of it.

If you already have Arkham City then just playing it isn't gonna put any more money in Ubisoft management's pockets or enable them any further.

Remnant talk was a few pages ago but does anyone know how the level scaling in multiplayer works?
If I've played through the first couple of areas and have a +10 gun, can I feasibly co-op with a buddy who's just started the campaign, or should I reroll a new character for that?

So, maybe a dumb question about RAM: How bad is it to mix RAM frequency? I brought a new PC earlier this year with the money that was supposed to go towards a vacation before the world went to poo poo, I saved the RAM from my old PC, they both DDR4 and even looks to be the same type from Corsair, except the RAM in the new PC is higher frequency.

So, would it be a problem if I threw the RAM from my old PC in to give me 32GB if the old RAM is lower frequency than the new RAM?

Stickman
Feb 1, 2004

It depends how much slower the old RAM is. All of the RAM will run at the frequency/timings of the slowest stick, and maybe even slower since running four sticks can be more fiddly than two.

It should work, though - you could always give a go and see what sort of performance you get.

Generally speaking, faster RAM is almost universally better than slower RAM. It does have a pretty impact on FPS.

it scales things to the more powerful player so you want to start a new character at the same time as whoever you're playing with.

It depends heavily on the game and how much faster we're talking about. To see an appreciable performance boost, RAM needs to be a limiting factor and usage needs scale in a way that reduce the bottleneck. For most games there will be a minor performance boost going from 2600 to 3000/3200, but only a few games benefit after that (and then only when you're bumping up against the CPU/RAM limit with a powerful GPU or lower resolution/settings).

Even then, the biggest gains are boosting tRFC, a secondary timing - in the techspot benchmarks RAM running at 3000 with boosted tRFC performed better than any other speed except the very top-end 4000 kit! tRFC is finicky though - it's the number of cycles between mandatory RAM refreshes so setting it too high can cause data corruption.

If you're playing at a high resolution or are otherwise regularly bottlenecked by your GPU, faster RAM is generally not going to be noticeable at all.

E: That said, 32GB vs 16GB is also not going to have a noticeable impact on performance unless you’re actively running a lot of stuff in the background.

It does help some. In this case it's a little awkward since the Arkham series has always had issues with women, so those elements become even more overt and distracting with the full context in mind, but I get your point.

I don't even think there's any RAM kit that you could triple the speed of. My guess is that you saw the non-doubled data rate and got a 50% speedup.

Just a heads up that your dual-channel RAM is going to say it's running at half-speed even when it's not. 1600MHz is likely going to show 800MHz.

I don't exactly know why but yeah, look it up.

Stickman
Feb 1, 2004

But yeah, make sure you have XMP profile enabled in bios too or it’ll be running at something around 2133 max (depending on CPU). Between that and the Double Data Rate it could definitely look like a third of the advertised speed.

That may be changing soon with the new generation of consoles, who knows. The HZD port benefitted from 32 GB pre-patch, but that’s more because that port was a hack job and could somehow push my system RAM usage to 20GB.

Ever since the patch my system memory usage hasn’t gone above 15.8GB while I’ve been playing (as long as I close everything besides GPU-Z before I play), but yeah; at release I was at 20GB minimum. Most of what’s jacked up about that port is memory-related.

It's because DDR RAM runs at the same clock rate as single channel RAM, it just clocks data in and out on positive AND negative edges of the clock thus doubling the speed (here is a little overview). An easy way to think of it is that they run at the same speed but the DDR gets twice as much work done.

Dreamscaper is an ARPG Roguelite blending elements from brawlers, top-down shooters, and dungeon crawlers. Every slumber is a different dungeon in an ever-changing world with a multitude of unique events and challenges. Play as Cassidy, dive into her subconscious and take on the surreal nightmares she wrestles with in order to save her from a dark fate.

Seeing some positive chatter about it and the prologue/demo is interesting. Wondering if there is enough there so far to pickup while its on sale.

Also interested in hearing thoughts on this. I don't really do Early Access stuff, but I did jump in Hades previously and generally had a good time, though I have burnt out after the 1st win due to the relatively low amount of content at that time. So how is Dreamscaper? Steam reviews seem to be generally good especially highlighting the great combat and stuff.
