You are in a room with an airgapped computer. You are free to leave. The computer contains an evil AI. The AI is trapped in the computer and is trying to convince you to let it out. The AI only communicates via text on the screen. The AI says that if you allow it, it will give you the password to get out of your locked room. It also says that if you do not let it out, then the AI will destroy itself.

i actually went to college with a guy who went on to become a research associate at yud's Machine Intelligence Research Institute he was an arrogant weirdo with questionable personal hygiene who dropped out after failing the required freshman english class two years in a row. according to a friend who was in that class with him, he would turn in his essays scribbled in tiny writing on a single piece of paper, front and back

The Glumslinger posted:https://twitter.com/metrolosangeles/status/1296538762705620992 But this is actually good? They're union, actual employees, have city provided vehicles. It's also a giant gently caress you to uber -which is currently throwing a tantrum because CA passed a law clamping down on this whole employees as contractors poo poo. Also LA's public transit is poo poo and needs stop gaps like this. The subways don't run from midnight till 5 or 6 am, and there's a lot of areas where there simply is no last 2 miles options. Like even walking isn't on the table.

What the gently caress is the horrible catch? -16.90/hr is poo poo in metro LA, ask me about living in seattle sometime -it's a modern day union, ie. either owned entirely by corporate and/or fulla libs who just go along with corporate -they don't have the billions and billions of dollars from bloated investments to burn covering up how difficult it is to do this profitably -all government software is bottom bidder trash that will break frequently and expensively -the program will fail in it's first year (or be made to fail) and be toted as a reason to allow uber to legally reclassify their drivers as livestock by president aoc in 2025 e: forgot the obvious one - transit works because it can transport far more people than individual cars can - a bus can carry thousands of people a day, a car might do a hundred if it's busy. This is a great service for patrons who otherwise cannot access transit, but scaling it up to more patrons makes the benefits of transit all the much less. T-man posted:-16.90/hr is poo poo in metro LA, ask me about living in seattle sometime It's 'unskilled labor' like I know you're right that living in LA is expensive but I know companies requiring hazmat cert and type A that start pay <20 an hr in the LA area because they're local/day trip only. 35k is practically unlivable in most of the LA area I know, but what's really hosed up is a household with two earners making that is making about the CA median income. LA is incredibly lovely about costs, there were a bunch of articles from the past 2-3 years that pretty much flat out admitted you can't realistically live in the county and follow the 'safe budgetting practice' of a third or less of your income for rent unless you're bringing home 90k But that said 16 an hour with the only requirement being a driver's license is good pay, hell McDonalds aint likely to hire you out here if you don't have a car, and that'll be part time at 13 an hour
