does putting art directly on top tend to work well for lower height sideboards? Since my new cabinet will be 20" tall, I think that may be the way to go, otherwise I think the vertical gap if I have the art piece on the wall at eye level might be too large.

totalnewbie posted:Separate toilets/shower is the best. You're never using both at the same time (I hope..) so why do they need to be together? For some strange reason whenever I see split bathrooms they almost always put the sink and shower together and then have the toilet in its room by itself. Meaning I would have to touch minimum 2 doorknobs before I can wash my hands after using the toilet.

The places in the Netherlands we stayed at had the toilet (and a sink) separate from the wash room (one with laundry) and it's so brilliant I want it in my future house.

Get yourself a toilet sink and never be without clean hands again Had one of these when I lived in Japan and kinda wish they were a thing here. Saves space but also is a super efficient way to use water.

From everything I've heard they are really great and they last forever. They can also be used as a secondary source of heating for the house. The traditional kind are energy hogs but the new ones are more efficient.

My sofa finally arrived. It's the perfect light grey and the seat cushions seems good so far, but the back cushions are bit puffy and have to be in just the right position to not feel the wood back. I wonder if that'll improve as the stuffing compresses over time. They're sending me a different base for the accent chair with the canonical wooden dowel legs and they still owe me another accent pillow, but I think I may have gone too large at 20". The green pillow is a placeholder but it's 16" and I think a much better size. There's also an 18" option. The coffee table looks too large here but I think it may actually be fine with the ottoman off to the side. Still, it could probably be replaced. In terms of an area rug, I absolutely love this but it's only 5.5x8' and I really need something at least 8x10': https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/halved-rug-flatwoven-handmade-multicolor-20328228/ This is the right size/price and probably decent enough quality, but I think it's only about 75% the right fit: https://www.costco.com/lenox-super-lush-shag-area-rug%2c-isola-blue-gray.product.100518339.html Josh Lyman fucked around with this message at 13:17 on Aug 21, 2020 |

There is a large quartz crystal encased in a copper chamber next to the fireplace in the living room that is connected to the rebar in the foundation of the house. This universal crystal was used in the house for its beneficial uses of manifesting healing, meditation and protection, as well as a purifier of negative energy. The massive hand-carved wood doors with its life giving support symbols enrich the living experience. The Zen like patios with hanging beds, and wood-carved screens integrate the indoor spaces with much greenery and refreshing visuals. The gardens, the pool, the guest house the Kiva and the privacy of this 1.33-acre lot invite you to spend time outdoors enjoying the majestic redrock views. Used as a retreat house and vacation rental for many years, and with recurring customers. Huge multi-purpose meeting room stands across main house. Wood and flagstone floors in all the house with radiant heating. Exquisite rock work in bathrooms, fireplaces, kitchen and other rooms. Solar heated pool. For an accurate description of this sacred space and this one of a kind home please continue reading the words of the architect.Architect Paul Froncek discusses architecture:When it was built in the high desert 25 years ago, it was called Southwestern Zen, but experiencing it over a quarter century, I see the house as distinctly Primitive Modern not unlike houses I built in Chicago. This house is timeless. Timeless structures are built on principles, not contrived by style or whim. That is why they endure and remain relevant. The original house was built on a most auspicious knoll with sweeping views of the red rock canyons formed by millennia of erosion. In the mid 90's the current owner purchased the traditional 1970s house and built on the existing concrete pad with a new post and beam structure. The heavy timber structure was inspired by the acquisition of a trove of salvaged fir posts and beams. The 300-year plus massive beams were rescued from being underwater for more than 100 years. They belonged to a railroad tresses bridge which collapsed into the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Wherever possible, we have preserved the existing saltwater cured patina on all the sides of the timbers. There is no stain that replicates the patina of cured and aged wood. The primitive modern palette is composed of natural, indigenous simplicity. The oversized structure allows for the spans and cantilevers that give the dwelling a presence and stature, unequalled by stick frame construction. There are classic principles of structure that inform the lines of the exterior. It is up to the architect, relying on his own humanity to render the interior gracious. Home is both where we shelter from reality and encounter consciousness.
