I think the risk of poisoning as far as the still is concerned is just if its got lead somewhere in it. I assume theyre probably not gonna kill you. I never used a still of that design, it serms pretty basic you might not have the versatility to try all different things but if you are learning its not so important. Pot stills keep alot of flavour which is good if you are doing dark spirits but it also means you gotta do multiple runs on each batch to strip out enough of the harsh flavours. I used a reflux still which strips out alot more stuff and is good for making vodka on the cheap
