I used the PC attached to my TV for games, but I don't use the PC at my desk for pleasure anymore. Working at home killed that.

Any thoughts on Thunder Lotus Games' Jotun and Sundered? The latter has been on my list of metroidvanias (is it though?) to check out and I'm not really sure what to make of it. Both are on a pretty good sale right now and all I can see in the reviews are the very pretty graphics.

The problem isn't eating at your desk, it's eating at your desk and not cleaning up any mess you make.

Jotun bored me practically to tears, like I usually will never leave a game unfinished but I just could not do it with that one. Nice art at least.

Haven't played Jotun but this re-review of Sundered summed up my thoughts:

It looks great in motion but my biggest issue is the combat is not fun at all. You get "swarmed" randomly and sometimes constantly through certain sections and it killed all my momentum.

To the people telling me just loving do it a day or so ago: I went ahead and ordered a brand new 2DSXL off ebay (and a 32 GB SD card separately). I actually wanted to get one of the red 3DS XL refurbs from Nintendo but their site was disallowing my credit card and I know from recent experience they have no loving idea what's going on with that and aren't able to help. Luckily the eshop fixed itself after a week or so but no go on the systems/accessories side.

I'm pretty pumped to have access to this huge library of games including the DS (I'm definitely going to spend $50 to purchase Chrono Trigger for the third time - edit: already did so). Any big recommendations aside from Samus Returns, Bowser's Inside Story, and OoT/MM?

Some of what he's talking about in this video are complaints I had about Jotun. It just felt very lifeless and bland (which is crazy, how do you make games with such stylish art feel bland?), and combat that wasn't fun at all.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis is a new phantasy star and it’s coming out next year.

Also, let’s not kid ourselves, the pre-MMO Phantasy Star’s were really nowhere near as memorable or interesting as other RPG’s and probably would’ve died as a series with IV if they didn’t make the jump to online.

I don't know why they're not calling it PSO3. it looks as different from PSO2 as 2 does from 1.

Edit: and it will be run concurrently with PSO2, at least for now.

Wasn't the original NDS only able to connect when using WEP which at the time was already discontinued and known to be not secure? I remember having to downgrade my network from WPA to WEP for something and that might be it.

Yeah, the DS was WEP only for wifi. And the 3DS has separate settings for original DS wifi, so DS games can't use anything better than that even on 3DS. I just used phone tethering on the rare occasion I needed a DS game to go online for something.

3ds.hacks.guide is your idiot proof guide to installing custom firmware on there, which you should absolutely do. There's software based ways of installing DS games to an SD card so you could easily go that route instead of paying for Chrono Trigger again. Here's the modding thread if/when you have any questions.

Regarding game recs and ignoring the ones you mentioned because yes the Zelda remakes and Samus Returns own:
Super Mario 3D Land (kinda sucks you didn't get a new3DS just for how well this game implements it tbh)
Luigi's Mansion 1+2
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Mario Golf World Tour
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions
Mario Kart 7
Yoshi's Woolly World
Legend of Zelda Link Between Worlds
Starfox 64 3D
Kid Icarus Uprising
Kirbt Robobot
Fire Emblem Awakening/Fates
Phoenix Wright games
Bravely Default/Second
Professor Layton games
Shantae and the Pirate's curse
Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D
Zero Time Dilemma
Virtue's last Reward
Dragon Quest 8
Ever Oasis
Story of Seasons
Rune Factory 4
Pilotwings Resort
Picross 3D
Super Monkey Ball 3D
Terraria
Minecraft
Any of the myriad pokemon games if you care

There's also a bunch of games that have Switch ports/updates/sequels so might be of less interest but I'm still listing them here because I have them installed:
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is a better fit on 3DS than Switch imo
Resident Evil Revelations is just better on 3DS
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Hyrule Warriors
Smash Bros
Xenoblade Chronicles
Animal Crossing New Leaf

Yeah, definitely weird but fun. An incredibly inconsistent as the game goes on. Some parts of it are absolutely loaded with intricate content, and some parts have absolutely nothing, and you never know which is which until it's already on you.

I love that stupid game.
