Mine didn't have autofire but I used to use it to play Rampage and Tower Toppler, etc. That era. It though it worked well.

Being a lefty sucked as a kid in the 80s We had an Odyssey 2 Super unsatisfying button. The 2600 controller had the same joystick/button configuration. I think after gaming so much I trained my right hand to do precise stuff. When I learned to use a Mac I just instinctively used my right hand for mousing

And that was all pre-standardization stuff, so if that was the case we'd see arcade cabinets where there's examples of both button configurations, and that absolutely would be something that would get tracked in a community as obsessive as the arcade collecting community, but I've had little success in finding any examples of one.

And you would expect that the fighting game community would have a bunch of right-side sticks for a competitive edge. The stick on those things is all large hand movements instead of fine motor control, it makes perfect sense to put it where most people’s off hand is.

And another day, another random 3rd Party Vidya thing: I've been wanting a clear PSX shell to go with my clear controller/memory card and Pocketstation. These unofficial shells were made in Venezuela and were out of production 13 years ago. They are VERY fragile and international shipping at the best of times resulted in busted pieces. I was actually in touch with the people in Venezuela who still have New Old Stock but they are locked down and cannot/will not export at the moment. By shear chance I found a clear purple here in Australia for a reasonable price considering it comes complete with a console so I don't even have to transplant internals!

You'd go to your friend's house and they'd hand you a clear plastic death sentence in Mario Kart or Street Fighter or whatever. I think everyone had some clear third-party controller as an extra at some point in the Nintendo 64 days because they were cheaper. It inevitably had weird extra buttons and usually had some other issues with it. It was inevitably the third controller in a house were only two were normally used, or in my case, the fourth when we normally used three. Ironically, the one that lasted the longest for us was a semi-transparent one that some googling tells me was called "Ice Blue". We played that thing heavily until 2004 or so, and it was still played semi often until like 2012, and it resisted stick drift longer than any of the others.

Some Goon posted:That and the massive, massive markup. So very true. I work in a state prison in a maintenance position, and we have inmates for helpers that make the princely sum of $.13 to $.21/hr, and half of that usually goes to ‘restitution’ that is usually court fees, not ‘paying back the little old lady whom you stole her car’. So when the inmates pay five months work for a 13” lcd TV that should be about $25, but is $175, it pisses me off, and when the quality is so bad that ‘abysmal’ doesn’t begin to describe it, it really pisses me off. I end up fixing all this busted poo poo for these guys with parts from other broken poo poo since I have rudimentary electronics skills, but it’s really a terrible scam that nobody cares about since they’re prisoners.

Oh, I’m very well aware of that, and other factors that ensure these guys don’t have a chance of making it once they leave. We(myself and some of the other workers)try to teach the inmates enough to get low-level jobs in our fields; what to say in an interview, and even how to get a reference from us(even though we’re not supposed to have any contact with parolees), but it’s an uphill battle. The first thing that gets cut is vocational education, even though it’s proven over and over again to be very helpful to prevent recidivism.

When they banned slavery except for prisoners, they were almost certainly thinking punishment duty like dredging swamps and cracking rocks, but of course Americans figured out how to make a profit off it. Again, Americans love to make every social problem a moral failing off the person in question rather than results of capitalism or racism or all the other fun stuff America has at its heart. So teaching people in jail skills that they can use to have a normal life after leaving prison is actually bad because these people are terrible people and therefor aren't deserving of things. Unless they're white and good at sports.
