Consider doing this for mining mats instead of actually mining. I got all the thaumica I needed for various gewgaws in far, far shorter order than I would have actually mining. Even after being significantly nerfed yesterday I still think it comes out way ahead

Some goons were talking about this in game but nobody posted it in the thread yet, so I might as well give a description (though I'm not an expert on this, ask Tallgeese for details) There's a way to cheese the isolation vault bounties so you can do three tier-3 iso vaults in a row. First, you speed through the tier 1 and tier 2 vault bounties without cracking open the vaults. (This is because opening a vault means it stays open until you return to town, and you want to open all 3 vaults in tier 3 bounties.) Then do the first tier 3 vault normally. It doesn't matter which cave you use for this because all 3 caves still have full vaults at this point. After finishing the bounty, one party member has to leave the party, and then you re-invite him. Now the rejoined player can go talk to Mother in the plains and pick up another tier 3 bounty, without having to repeat the tier 1-2 ones. There are three Mother spawns and three vault caves. Make sure to pick a Mother next to a cave you haven't done yet this cycle so you'll get a fresh vault. Repeat again for the third vault and you're done. You have to watch the day-night cycle though. When it changes from Fass to Vome or vice-versa, the isolation vault bounties reset back to tier 1. So it's best to start a run like this at the beginning of a cycle. On the subject of which frames to bring for isolation vaults: Nekros gets you extra chances at rare drops from nekramechs (which are a pain to farm and which you need to build one of your own). Wisp can boost Loid with her speed mote to spend less time on the vault-cracking escort section. Nova can also wormhole him, but Volt's speed boost doesn't work for some reason. General warcrimes frames like Octavia, Ember, Equinox, Revenant are good for toxin cave survival step but probably not really needed. Saryn is a lot weaker than normal though cus everything on Deimos resists viral. Maybe Harrow/Oberon/Nezha/Trinity to try and stop your buddies from getting constantly oneshot by the nekramechs. I still don't really understand these fights. Sometimes you hit the weakpoints and they die in 5 seconds, sometimes they go invulnerable for 30 seconds at a time and run around oneshotting everyone. Apparently shooting them while the lightning skin buff is on reflects damage or buffs their damage or something like that.

I absolutely face the Necramech alone. Both because I dislike group play on principle, but also because every single time I've tried to do isolation vaults in a group they've bugged out and made it impossible to complete the second and third vault bounties.

Although there's some weirdness with that too; once or twice I've seen Infested spawns break so they don't appear at all except for a few hard-coded ones. (For example during the toxic survival portion, only the special extra-toxic ones spawn, no others, and zero adds during the Necramech fight.)

Yeah no, the new token system is much, much better. People I know were iffy on the Open worlds before as they felt like they were wasting their time when they hit the daily cap. They don't get that feeling here and some of them have even really gotten into the Conservation. It's been quite the thing.

The limited number of turn-ins per hour and the turn-ins requiring a random sample of everything are a much bigger negative than what you're describing, and, more importantly, are not needed to do that. It's not better at all even if there's one very minor lateral improvement mixed in with all the ways they made it worse. e: Conservation was always bad but look at how fishing and mining worked before this. They could have just done that. Tuxedo Catfish fucked around with this message at 00:27 on Aug 29, 2020 |

if you're playing the game so hard that 'limited turnins per hour' is a huge negative for you then you might need to step back and think about whether or not the content is meant to be speedrun like that like, go out and stock up on items you want in the interim or something

If you poopsock you'll eventually have a mountain of all the resources anyways and be relatively unaffected, but if you want to get things done in a reasonable amount of time (or in a small window set aside for the purpose) it sucks.

Let me come at this from another angle, because I think folks are kind of missing the forest for the trees. You don't need to completely clear out the token store for it to be a problem; that's irritating and it's probably driven by the desire to make the player log in more times per day but it's a relatively minor issue and not really my focus. The problem is that everything about the token system is designed to devalue your time unless you increase your commitment. If you pick one activity and don't do every part of it -- if you don't collect every type of fish, conserve every type of animal, etc. -- then you can't do as many turn-ins. If you don't do every different activity, if you don't get tokens from everyone, then you don't get grandmother tokens and your standing gains are roughly 65% of what they would otherwise be. The more you focus on doing one thing, the more heavily you're "penalized" by resources that you spent time to collect but can't turn in, and by getting stuck turning in non-Grandmother tokens. If you spend a thousand hours doing everything Deimos has to offer, your efficiency will be pretty good. But if you play a little here and there and only do the things you like doing, then your time is literally worth less.

BMan posted:No, because mom tokens per hour are way higher than all the other tokens They're still significantly slower than best practice in previous open worlds. Look at it this way: if everything in Deimos worked exactly like Cetus or Fortuna, but all the standing costs were increased by 50% (except for, say, MR 29+ players who get a discount), what would you think?

But, again, there's not actually any essential relationship between the two. You could do neither. (I also think it's silly to describe a one-time cost as a worse system than one that's less rewarding forever, but that's a separate thought.)

You could just not design a system that deliberately obfuscates the time commitment it takes to get anywhere because the player would balk at it if you told them up front.

This is not what I would classify as impossibly rare, even if you've been incredibly unlucky. Ticker is useful as a bonus and a way to convert unneeded cash and mats into rep but it not required. You will get those bonds, along with a nice chunk of rep and relics, long before you get past the current rank 3 Entrati wall. In X months when the spawns work and they've fixed mining and the vaults don't bug out and everything is as it was intended, it will still be a slog. I'd explain why but Tuxedo already did. You're trading in the current pain of having to do a lot of bounties to rank up for the eventual pain of having to do a stupid number of bounties (or greater/equivalent time farming every activity for all things) every day. Edit: Also I keep forgetting about Scintillant, but that's not related to tokens aside from the fact that if you want gear you're gonna be grinding those bounties. For rank you only need 1 token of the two kinds and the few resources that are thematic for the cutscene so its pretty easy so far I've found, and you hit your daily max for rep in half an hour of play or so of normal bounties. Its much preferable to the fortuna system. T1: Hunt some cave fish T2: blueprints that just cost rep T3: actually a bit tricky since you need a specific predasite but the bird you can get by just going to cerebrum magna and leaving and coming back 5 times.
