Sorry, but the game has only been out for two days, so I don't think there's going to be a lot in the way of useful hints or tips for at least another week. People do have to play it first.

A couple of things from me.

- When creating your character you get asked to choose Attributes first, then Skills, this is a bit of a trap, because Combat Skills tell you which Attributes you should prioritize for them, so it's best to select which Combat Skill you want to invest in, then go back and pump those attributes.
- You get an extra Attribute every level after 2nd, 3 skill points per level (higher skill levels require more skill points), and 1 perk point every other level after 4. You can only buy perks which you unlock by having sufficiently high skills in.
- As far as I can tell, no dialog checks factor in your Attributes. Only skill levels.
- You make two Rangers at the start, then you can make as many as you want after the prologue (their level will scale, but they do not gain the bonus exp from things that increase exp gain like Bookworm or Charisma). You can have to have 2-4 Rangers in your party at any time with a controllable party cap of 6. Animals and certain NPCs can join beyond this cap but they are not directly controllable.
- Almost every weapon Skill has an energy equivalent and it's wise to invest in those as an offhand against high armor enemies.
- Unlike other games in this genre, this is a very combat focused game. There are not a lot of ways to avoid combat and so you should get used to upgrading your weapons and armor frequently.
- Like other games in this genre, is it beneficial to save the skill points from your last level up until you actually need to spend them something.
- Positioning, especially on the harder difficulties is pretty important. It's almost better for you to initiate a fight rather than allow an enemy to do it. Just attacking certain NPCs is considered a valid dialog option and can lead to different outcomes than attacking them through dialog. Additionally, selecting the [Attack] option in dialog will give you the first round of Initiative.
- Poly is best girl.

Not technically a "before" I play question, as I'm many hours into the game, but -

Final Fantasy X (remaster on PS4), is there a point where I get to freely backtrack? I'm starting to hit what appears to be optional sidequests and dungeons and such (Calm Lands, just beat Defender X). There hasn't been a traditional world map to navigate up to this point, so I'm wondering if I'll get to to check this stuff out later if I just push the main story forward now.

Yes - you end up being able to freely travel (outside of a few one-time only locations). But some locations have optional super-bosses in the way on return - which may be new if you never played the PAL/International/Remasters editions before.

Almost at the very end of the main storyline, following Zanarkand. You get the airship for good and can either finish the game right there or do all the side content.

My Lovely Horse
Aug 21, 2010

You do eventually get access to an airship that allows you to fast travel. Slight-to-strong caveat: reaching that point also unlocks superbosses that block off certain areas, including Besaid Village. It's... an unfortunate setup.

It is often a good idea to train your own personnel, because at higher levels the hires come with a very eclectic mix of often very useless abilities. Just picking someone with a low base pay and using them to train your more competent existing personnel in the skills they need is a good idea.

You will need many more general practitioner offices than you might think. They are basically the big bottleneck and your patients will return there multiple times over the course of a difficult treatment.

I know kirbysuperstar said very unlikely, but the people working on the remake/updated version are Onion Games, and they've already released 2 of their previous titles (Dandy Dungeon & Black Bird) on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/developer/Onion_Games

So they at least have a presence on Steam, which is a better head start than some Japanese developers. There's been nothing said about a PC port but I wouldn't be too surprised if there was one in the works. Their last release, Dandy Dungeon, originally came out on Switch in June of last year and then came out on Steam late November.

This is probably not the right place to ask but does anyone know if Super Robot Wars T (the Switch version in particular) has both English and Japanese in a single edition? I’ve seen conflicting info that the “international” edition (with the English cover) doesn’t have Japanese at all, according to some people, while according to others it just goes based off of your user settings (which I know other games do).

There’s two versions of the game: the Japanese release, which only has Japanese, and the South East Asian release, which has Chinese, Korean, and English. No version has both Japanese and English.

I'll expand on this a bit more.

First off this game is really buggy. Save often and in different spots. 1 of the big bugs is if you remove one of the 2 starting rangers from your squad their stats bug out and they become unusable. poo poo like loving damage rolls up so bad they heal the enemy instead of hurting them. Luckily you can make as many characters as you want in your home base. The only caveat is if you gave them a unique quirk like Poindexter the bonus skill points from levels is not added in.

On the topic of skill points the +1 skill point per 2 Intelligence is ONLY applied on character creation. It DOES NOT apply every level. Everyone gets 3 skill points a level regardless of Intelligence except for the people with the quirk that gives you +1 skill point on even levels. That's not to say Intelligence is worthless since that's the crit skill now, just don't expect to have someone with 10 Intelligence being your non-combat jack of all trades character.

If you need money the 7 Barter perk. Antiques Appraiser, will fix that problem. If you get it to proc on the right item you get a gently caress ton of money and there will be a lot of chances for that. An example is I went from having around 2k-4k most of the game to having 48k after 1 transaction.

Don't go looking for the most "optimal path" in the story. This game is good about moral gray areas and your decisions will come back to haunt you one way or the other. Do your best to roll with the punches and remember its ok to tell an NPC "no" or just straight up murder them if you really want to.

This game is pretty combat heavy and it sounds like other than ammo problems in the tutorial anything is legit. I don't do melee but I've heard great things about it still being viable on the hardest difficulties. Sadly there is no way to respec a character and if you gently caress up you have to remake them from scratch, minus the quirks I mentioned earlier.

You can get a shitload of animal followers in this game if you want and they are pretty good. Just know you can't control them and the enemy like to target them. When they die they are also gone for good so keep that in mind if you get unique pets. Otherwise there's more than enough wildlife around. They are good meat shields if you don't get sad watching your animal followers get picked off constantly.

Turrets and the like are really good for drawing enemy fire too while doing good damage. You can throw out as many as you want but know they are destroyed after combat is over. It'll also crash the game if you throw out too many. I've had 4-5 out without crashing but just keep that in mind.

Save skill books until they are needed to get level 10 in a skill. Otherwise you're wasting skill points. Once you use a book its gone for good and if you delete that character you don't get the book or skill point back.

Last one is repeating save often and in different spots. Seriously. I cannot understate how buggy this game can be sometimes. It will sometimes work in your favor so if you find a way to break the game go for it.

Edit: You should carry around a flamethrower with you at all times because you can use it to melt ice. I think the ice axe works too but I'm not sure.

I have some tips for THPS 1+2

* The menus are bad, if you can't find something back all the way out and look around
* The skill points in the levels are in different places based on what type of skater you're using: vert, street, or park //(at the moment most online guides only have the ones for vert)
* When using a created skater you can respec your skill points whenever which can help if you need to get more air/speed/etc to get an objective
* The tutorial skipped over some things, or maybe I missed it, but No Comply and Boneless are in the game, just hit Up/Up Up and Ollie for them. Wall plant is just hitting ollie when you run into a wall in air.
* When your skater is in Switch stance their skills are less effective unless their Switch skill is maxed out. There's an icon in the upper right showing which stance you're in.

Toaster repair gets you Tarjan tokens, which can be exchanged for random minor permanent perks or random incredibly powerful temporary buffs, as well as golden toaster parts, which are important for a late game secret. Nothing vital, but worth having.

This is a game where the main appeal is exploration. You could theoretically rush things and complete it quickly, but this isn't likely to be enjoyable.
Related to this- there's no time limit to your missions. Feel free to take your time, explore, and dive into links. Completing cases gets you money and advances the story, but you aren't going to get in "trouble" for putting your cases off until then.
There's one specific expensive program you might want to save up for (if you flag a lot, you can probably get it after only a couple of cases), but money isn't a serious issue in this game. Go ahead and buy wallpapers and music, it's fun!
