I recently did a Quarantine rewatch of the whole series, it's still a solidly hilarious show.

I'm still amazed they even cancelled it at all. As far as cartoons go, it had to have been absolutely dirt cheap to produce

What's the story behind how Space Ghost just sort of slowly petered out rather than being explicitly cancelled? Did they just like, get tired of doing it but nobody had bothered to actually set up any kind of contractual obligations for delivery of seasons so episodes were finished basically whenever enough people bothered to come to work at the same time or something?

Adult Swim kind of just doesn't do strict season scheduling for stuff from the olden days. See also, Venture Brothers.

On top of this, most of the people involved just moved on to other things over time, and with C. Martin Croker having passed away in 2016, they'd have to do any new stuff without Zorak or Moltar or recast those voices, which probably isn't an appealing thought (especially since Croker got hosed bad by Williams Street and died broke, iirc).

Oh yeah I don’t mean they should make more now or anything, it’s just that in like 2002 it sort of ... faded away with no explanation. Episodes got cheaper looking and farther between and more experimental and weird, and then it was gone like the signal to the satellite had finally dropped leaving us to guess at its fate.

Fun Shoe
Apparently it moved to the GameTap service which funded new episodes.

The show only actually died with that service in 2008.

the impression i've gotten is that, if the people involved weren't busy and the money was there, they were 100% happy to make more and it wasn't cancelled, it just wasn't on any kind of schedule (plus the Gametap move, because they stepped in when Williams Street's funds were tied up in everything else).

the problem is that, after 2002, basically everyone involved in the show was busy to varying extents, Williams Street had a lot more on their plate financially with AS becoming a full-on Thing, and... then Croker passed away and made it basically impossible to revive.

Man Stuart Baker being a total poo poo and imploding his own stable career is unfortunate and gently caress him for being Anti-Dolly and a dumb racist shithead. Just kill Early and bring in his slightly younger twin brother, Landfill, only just call him Early like nothing really changed. Voiced by Tom Waits. :v:

And that's exactly why he should voice Early. :colbert: You could even have Nick Nolte do that same kind of rambling hobo monologue. Just the entire family is constantly asking why his voice is different. poo poo just have different country artists voice Early for like a season with no explanation and all the confusion. And then settle on Gary Busey.

Up to season 7 of Futurama now. Man it gets REALLY weak at the end.
It feels a lot like Zombie Simpsons where it's just an excuse to throw the random cast of characters into whatever bizarre situation. And there's a LOT more Bender centric episodes as well.

I'm not having any issues finding them!

I've finished the series altogether now and even the kinda emotional episodes in season 7 are a bit lovely. There's one where Fry sees his mum again and I get that they're going for the jurassic bark "feel" but the conceit of the episode made no sense and that loving ruined it.
A big ship is heading for earth, making a strange "close encounters" kinda sound. Fry recognises this sound and the professor identifies it's from December 31st 1999.

So they go into his memories to find out what it was. It turns out to be the car lock for Nibbler's car that he left on the roof of Applied Cryogenics. The gigantic ship comes down and is tiny, and a Niblonian gets out of it. It was just....stupid and ruined the episode for us. It could have been ANYTHING else.

Adult Swim has been on a kick recently (last 6 years?) of picking up youtube animations and shorts. I remember watching the Tigtone pilot years ago and remembering it was chok full of rando youtube personalities back then (Mike from Red Letter is a black smith I think). Awesome to see how eventually this weird animation ended up on t.v. Same thing goes for YOLO. Been a fan of Micheal Cusack since well...the first YOLO. I'm wishing the best for Smiling Friends ! I really did enjoy that pilot aswell. Need more Mike voice acting as literally himself. Or Emperor Palpatine

Tigtone is my favorite of the newer adult swim series, its just raw creative sillyness with some great line delivery. Usually going for a weirder, esoteric solution for its comedy than a straightforward one, always keeps me guessing where its going.

I remember finding it at random and wondering what the hell Bill Corbett was doing in a random YouTube video. Didn't know about Mike from RLM, though looking it up it seems like all three of the RLM guys were in it.

Yeah, especially if you come into the show realizing that Tigtone is just acting like a hyper active MMO RPG player. The escort quest episode was funny as hell as it was like doing any escort mission in a RPG.

MMO? Nah, Tigtone is an old-fashioned tabletop murder hobo. At least with MMORPGs the developer can force the player to do the quest the right way and not murder NPCs in the hope that they'll drop better loot.
