You're not familiar with the "left on red if no one is coming" rule? Weird.

I've seen the same, but with "go straight even though it's red"... guess they didn't want to wait for the light.

In a massive impact dash cams typically aren't going to record continuously through the moment of impact, right? They're going to glitch out from the G forces? I have/had a Thinkware F800 Pro and the two video files from before the impact are 36 seconds long and the one video file from after the impact goes back to being 60 seconds long and there's about a 1 second gap in between them according to the timestamp. And there's no reason to power the thing up and connect it to my phone, right? There's nothing to be gained over the files that I've already taken off the card?

I wish I could post the video and I will post the video the second I can post the video which I'm guessing will be in 2 years or so.

I talked to Thinkware about this briefly and it seemed like they're saying that when the rear camera was destroyed it should have stopped the current 1 minute F and R clips and immediately started a new 1 minute clip with only the front camera.

Which it did, it just wasn't immediate.

I've been happily driving in Italy for past four years and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the traffic flowed nicely and people abide by the customs, even if they are a bit different from elsewhere. Now that I returned to the States, I keep having lovely overtakes, people pull in front of me from side alleys and such, and finally yesterday I had two very close calls with a car trying to get in front of me as I am in bright daylight on a 55mph highway. My wife's car is a Focus ST2016, and I'd like to have at least forward facing continuously filming camera, and one of those that records during a hit and run would also be nice. What are the go to's today? Should I install one by myself with zero expertise, or pay a shop to do it? I see a big amount of cameras around 100 dollar mark on Amazon, and they say I can install by myself, but I am not convinced.

I also would love it to be zero effort hands off experience after install, where the next time I worry about is if something happens. I don't want to press buttons or anything before each drive.

Can you do the following tasks:

1) insert a USB plug correctly?
2) attach a sucker to a piece of glass?
3) run a cable around something without strangling yourself?

Then you have the skills to do the install yourself.

All dashcams are hands off - all you need is a USB socket/cigarette lighter that only has power when the key is on.

All brands will do what you want. I have a YI brand cause it is cheap, good quality image and the android app doesn't suck.

Grimey Drawer
Yeah as long as you've got a spare cigarette/power socket everything's pulg'n'play. Maaaybe take it somewhere if you want to wire it in to your fusebox so it still only gets power while the engine is on, but that's also a) relatively easy and b) usually not worth the trouble.

Protip: start running the power cable from the plug up to the camera, not the other way around. Usually you can just tuck any slack up above your roof lining and this will let you move the camera anywhere on your windshield you want and even take it off and hold it in your hand like a camcorder if things ever really go sideways.

This is the third or fourth video you've posted from this area, and I used to hate going around there when I worked in the neighborhood because of how much dumb poo poo I'd see. There's nothing in the design of the intersection that's bad, so something is up with the people.

It's not a particularly bad part of town, medium-lovely at worst. Probably a combination of really badly timed traffic lights, and tons of people wanting to U-turn at the first light to get to the gas station on the other side of the road. Oh and the intersection with the freeway is a big panhandle spot, sometimes I see 2 or 3 people working different traffic directions.

I used to do that every day :v:

I used to work the late shift in an industrial area and going home at night I had to turn left at the first intersection. The light for the main road took ~forever~ and half the time there were literally no other cars in sight either direction. So yeah, I'd make a wimply little right on red turn before :airquote: U-turning to go left. Doing it in actual traffic tho, yea, dumbass.

When I delivered pizza in a college town, the rule was that after 1AM during the week and 2:30AM on weekends, stop signs are yield signs, and stop lights are stop signs. The cops knew us all, and never touched us because they got delivery all the drat time and knew the golden rule "Don't piss off the people that handle your food". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNJPXoto7WA

And this one... I don't know why they didn't either speed up to get in front of me or slow down to get behind me, but I was maintaining a constant speed and couldn't get over because of traffic so I think they just didn't understand how to merge into traffic or something.

I have a Blackvue D750 in my wife's Impreza that keeps playing the start up noises and I can't figure out why. I was thinking it might be a power issue, but the video clips don't stop when it happens. I have one that you can hear the whole startup sequence ("Blackvue for your safe driving..."), although it is shorter than the other clips. I have it plugged into a MagicBox as well. Anyone have any ideas?
