Huh, so apparently the Draw! perk works works with all guns including bazooka's, meaning you can fire a rocket, reload and then shoot another rocket for free.

That seems pretty busted and counter to the theme of the perk but brb gotta run up small guns and make it rain fire I guess.

I think Friendly Fire is disabled as to normal weapon shots, like you aren't going to accidentally get one of your characters with a missed assault rifle shot. But if you knowingly fire a shotgun or flamethrower arc into them, they're still taking that damage.

Speaking of which, I think I'm going to dump my melee characters altogether and go full guns. Just haven't had a lot of luck with them, it seems like they spend half the battle running around trying to get in position while my sniper has already killed the person they were going for, and then they are in the way of my shotgunner and flamethrower, and plus in more danger of getting killed since they are up where all the exploding bombers or pigs or whatever other bullshit is going on in the middle of the battlefield.

The idea behind it is fantastic, and there's a lot of nice quality of life UI stuff to support coop(shared inventory, using the skills of allies for checks if they're close to you). However, right now it's critically bugged to the point where progression is nearly impossible in co-op, so it's going to need some patching before it's worth playing specifically for co-op.

Singleplayer is mostly fine.

I'm at around level 16 for my group with rank 5-7 weapons. Here's how the power balance has shifted on jerk:

  • My sniper, who was strong early game, is now the worst performer. Even when I get two shots a turn it isn't much with a rank 6 dragunov. He has max luck, coordination, and charisma. I'm going to grind out int next to see if the crits help
  • My SMG character is now a beast, especially with a +3M scope. Using a rank 7 SMG she tears the gently caress out of enemies every turn. Max coordination and charisma.
  • My shotgun character, a poindexter with maxed int and coordination, with a rank 7 pump shotty is outstanding. On paper the damage seems meh, but the shotgun perks with 40% chance to crit every hit means tons of damage, and she shoots 3-4 times a turn! She sucked early game so this is a nice change.
  • My pistol character, max speed + awareness and high int, has always been a good performer. Rank 7 pistol with a +4m scope with the pistol perks means 3-4 shots a turn, usually with an aimed shot or crit. Does 2-3 times the damage of my dumb sniper :(
  • My heavy + flamer character (max str and coordination, grinding awareness now) is starting to wax a little. The good heavy weapons use extremely expensive 50 cal ammo, so I use the lighter weapons with less damage. Using rank 5 guns he does about the same damage as my sniper, but less reliably. Just found a rank 6 flamer, hopefully this helps a bit.

No melee characters. Regarding upgrades, I'm finding that the +range scopes are important to making flamer, pistol, shotgun, and smg characters shine. It's hard finding that many though, so I'm always chasing that gear. Despite field stripping tons of guns I still haven't gotten one through RNG.

The writing in this game keeps growing on me. There are a surprising number of interesting and memorable characters, and the game does a much better job of straddling the silly/serious line than its predecessors and other similar games like the Divinity series. For example I found a very silly joke about a man growing cabbage patch kids that was actually quite touching. I also really want to find out who the Creepy Smile Lady is. I just wish they toned the edginess down a bit, I dont need every gang to be a bunch of murderous psychos who want to eat people and gently caress their guts

Edit: There's a bug (on PS4 at least) where switching characters after interacting with a menu screen can cause a frozen menu screen that you can't exit. Yeah, the first time it happened to me was at a vendor too and I'm actually not 100% sure if I switched characters there, but I didn't notice it until I had accidentally sold off half my inventory hammering buttons to try and exit :sweatdrop: I also had to close the game to the ps4 dashboard and re-launch it for that one.

On the Perks screen when it happens I can fix it by changing tabs, but in a vendor there aren't different tabs to switch between so it sucks when it happens there.

On the topic of the game not being subtle when you go into the secret bunker that Angela Death tips you off about, she try's to sell it like some hugely aha! evil thing, but it left me feeling like it wasn't. Even some of the dialog options when you leave the bunker match that. I get that the patriarch had to do some shady poo poo to stay in power, but the people you're supposed to free are even worse than him, and they plan to continue doing it. I love that I was able to straight up say "I don't associated with slavers" and killed them right there. This is so early in the game and it just keeps going after that... real interested to see where things go. Doing my best to do an independent play-through, where I prop the rangers on top and none of the other powers.

Just impressed you can straight up murder major characters and the main plot just adjusts and rolls with it

I think it's General Woodson who says that Angela sees things in black and white terms. So to her it was totally an "aha!" moment, but that is more about showing who she is as a character than revealing absolute truths.

Man alive, I hope they come up with a save editor soon. My gunner is a real MVP but having him juggle between machineguns, flamethrowers, and explosives is too much. A more efficient way to do it would've been to have two gunners: one that sits back with a machinegun and rocket launcher, and one that goes aggro with the heaviest armor and a flamethrower, plus either shotguns or brawling gear for preference.

Man, I had built my party around knowing just the names and general builds of future party members, then I get to the Lords of War one and I just couldn't bring myself to recruit him even if he does have a cool shotgun arm. Maybe in another playthrough, but as it stands this just seems generally morally ridiculous to do. No. There is some randomness in the ammo boxes so it can happen. Upthread a goon shared a bug where if you are indecisive during character creation and click between starter weapons, it’ll keep depositing ammo in your inventory which makes the problem go away if you don’t mind slightly cheating and are still stuck in the intro and don’t mind restarting.

On the topic of Flab I decided to try both options, either siding with him or working with Charlie to userp him. My hope was that I could double cross Charlie... and yep, you can! The best thing is that there is absolutely no reason to ever side with the Gippers for any reason mechanically. For their quest the Machine Commune gives you Party Bot (a combat companion that heals, buffs and does ranged damage) if you double cross them vs an incredibly low cash reward. Even if you go through with it and side with them anyways they try to download the Reagan AI into Val which pisses off the Patriarch. And on top of all that there's a clear path to betray them to the creepy cannibals that gives better rewards

Also the Machine Commune owns.

Whew - I'll update the OP with lots of stuff when I can but I've been playing all weekend and tired. Jesus this game is a blast but a couple of bugs I've seen: XBone and Normal Mode.
Crash to Desktop: Seems to be mainly when I'm going from the inventory screen. Happens multiple times a day if I play 8 hours. Hoping this will be fixed soon as this game is so much drat fun. I save often so it's not going to make me rawr but it is annoying.
Medical Marvel: Glitchy. The xtra HP is nice but if the guy dies then it marks him with a message as unable to revive in combat.... after combat. The guy can also be buggy even if right about to drop (fire or bleeding) and can also be marked as dead. Close out of the game and reload a save seems to be the fix.
NPC's using energy weapons: they seem to do the same kinda damage to my guys they would on bots. I'm assuming the -30% damage should apply but it doesn't seem to. Haven't tried it on any non bots as I always forget to swap.

Random notes of enjoyment: Major Tom is amazing. Seriously I love this character and any dlc need to make him revivable as I am paranoid of him dying. Love that a family I saved were amazed by the Ranger Cat in a hat.

Wolfe's Hunt: So I was back and forth with this one. On one hand the robot had a kid's voice and I felt sorry for him and on the other Gary Wolfe is a racist prick. Yeah the bot said he would probably kill and I was being super naive by not killing him but Gary Wolfe 1) was never recruited in my games as w2 made it hard and it wasn't that good so he was stolen valour as far as I'm concerned 2) Wolfe and company shot up the town a =nd expecting me to clean their mess and 3) called me a simp and a race traitor. Yeah the bot did immediately kill someone going over the wall and carved "thank you for helping me escape" into the corpse so I know this is going to bite me in the rear end but I didn't see anyone else choose this in the walkthrough (was curious) and hoping that Wolfe bites it hard. gently caress that dude. This also fits my naive good guy that means well but is so hosed.

Also... still shocked that melee isn't that much more effective than guns. Also wish there was more knifey perks. Waiting till a certain companion to try brawling though I might reroll one of my four custom.

Heavy weapons and explosives on the same guy feels natural at the beginning of the game, but then I quickly realized I wanted to have a flamethrower and a machine gun and a rocket launcher equipped and that doesn't really work. Still fiddling around with different builds to see where a rocket launcher would make the most sense and I'm leaning toward on my sniper.
