Edit: for those avoiding spoilers, and thinking this is some kind of rickroll based on the below posts, it’s still a spoiler for the teaser.

i don't think this gives away any spoilers, but watching the potato version has it looking VERY john schoenher compared to the lighter promo pics that went out awhile ago. or like i'm standing in the rothko chapel. this is pretty much maximally designed to get me to flip out.

Exploration is ill-advised.
The aesthetic looks kinda dull, but... that does seem fitting given it's all utilitarian tech on a brutal desert planet; in other words, on purpose.

I vaguely remember my mental image of spice harvesting rigs being cheap, rusty and bare-bones.

it'll probably bore the standard moviegoing audience to tears, and be a big flop (knock on wood) and i will still sit there clapping like an idiot

I remember it being explained in the book that the Harkonnens let all of the equipment go bad and didn't do much to maintain it. They did the bare minimum in order to get the most profit. So much so that it just became normalized and the freemen thought it was already weird when the Atreides took over and changed all of that.

If it's a big flop, we won't get a part2

medium movie please. Fully pays for itself and green-lights a part2 without being Marvel big

I am very concerned about this. Obviously Dune is not going to make a billion dollars in theaters, that ship sailed due to the pandemic. I hope though that those in charge of this movies fate, will be willing to take a loss on this movie and make Part II anyways. The film failing to turn a profit in theaters will not be its fault.

Maybe movies don’t have to make billions anymore since they don’t have to spend so much on marketing? I hope?

Sadly there will always be that dream to chase of bypassing the amount of money made by Avengers Endgame. Hollywood will not rest. The mouse must feed.

There is no sanity, there is no rationality. There is only the blind, heedless pursuit of more money.
The Execs see Movie A making billions, and expect every movie to do so, or it's a failure.

Not to mention that even if a movie is wildly profitable, you get creative movie accounting that shows it all at a loss.

Honestly, the entire movie industry needs to be collapsed.

Funny thing is despite all that most of the big franchises have already hosed themselves to death- where else are the billionaires supposed to put their money? New Mutants 2?

The brutalist aesthetic and sardaukar looking like faceless mooks in surplus Starship Troopers uniforms from a Saturday morning kids show are very DUNE, and I’m a fan of Villanueve’s work, but it certainly gives low budget vibes.
