The Flash Annual #3: Captain Boomerang is telling some government agents the story of how he (and the Flash) helped the (rogue) Suicide Squad escape Deathstroke. So Boomerang goes to make a heroic last stand to buy the SS time to get to a jet and get away. (This is of course a lie, and it's revealed that the reason he has a black eye is that Deathstroke beat the poo poo out of him and the only reason he wasn't killed was because the Flash (who had faked his death, obviously) saved him)

The best thing about this is he comes back in the 3rd Damage Control limited series as a cosmic janitor who wants to clean up the universe with a giant glowing pushbroom. The entire 3rd series is wrapped up in this as a major plot point. His name is Edifice Rex.
