I guess you could interpret Fight Club as what happens to some alienated, patriarchal men in a capitalist world without a leftist alternative. Capitalism reduces every relationship to a financial transaction, an exchange of commodities, including sex and family life. His father was "creating franchises," "single serving friends," etc. Patriarchal expectations remain, challenged ("men raised by women") but unfulfilled. Men like Ed Norton respond by forming an underground fascist movement based on hypermasculine bullshit like punching one another in the face and unquestioned obedience to the strongest man, eventually getting big enough to genuinely threaten the system. But their plan for life after the revolution is a bunch of Tyler Durden's fantastic ramblings about a return to a romantic natural order. Nobody presents these men with a solution that addresses their alienation beyond their desire to find fulfillment in a hierarchy of men and assert dominance over women. You either trudge the grey path of an office drone or live as a warrior, fighting and dying a martyr's death in glorious war.

For some of them, they can sense the failure of the current neoliberal order and are joining up with anyone who offers them an alternative, and often that's not the left.

Modern leftist organizations are seen (often rightly) as ineffectual and insular, more concerned with establishing their in group hierarchies, while avoiding anything explicitly being hierarchical, forming committees, rigorously defining terms, and being sex pests, rather than doing any kind of meaningful action. But enough about the DSA,

it's propaganda but also not having to deal with other forms of marginalization like racism or misogyny or homophobia/transphobia

makes it a lot easier to formulate your ideology around hating the Other

Sometimes when I want to reaffirm my belief that Zamasu actually was right, I'll talk to my father in law about healthcare reform.

We'll sit around and trash insurance companies for the parasitic vultures they are, poo poo-talk politicians on the take from pharmaceutical companies, and generally have an all-around great laugh until we try and broach what exactly to do about it.

The man has enthusiastically agreed when I said we should hang insurance company executives in Crusader Kings III, but when I suggest even mild healthcare reform offered by the Democrats, my thinking FIL disappears and my devoutly Roman Catholic FIL takes over, and those damned baby-killing Democrat socialists want to destroy America by killing all the babies and I just can't vote for that!

Oh, I'd love to ask him what he thinks about some of my favorite Bible passages, but usually once he's invoked "DEMS BAD, UHBORSHUNS" it's rapidly on to "AND THE ANTIFA TERRORISTS TEARING DOWN OUR HISTORY THAT WAS ONLY ERECTED IN 1965 AS A GIANT MIDDLE FINGER TO THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT"

I'm not sure what's going on with older Americans with this bifurcated thinking like this.

I was thinking of younger more rural alt-right types, many of whom never encountered a leftist organization, or live in suburbs where the local chapter of whatever org comes off more as a social club for misfits rather than a real political organization.

i tried to get the trump team to stop texting me by criticizing the BLM rioters as not being radical and destructive enough, and that they've left far too many avatars of unrestricted capitalism untouched by righteous flame but...they still keep texting.

It's worth remembering that fascism is also an anti-liberal ideology. Fascism agrees that liberalism is bourgeois bullshit and just window-dressing on gross inequality. It's just that instead of crack-pinging into class solidarity for the worldwide proletariat and the exploited against the exploiters, they crack-ping into the glorious race/nation/gender exterminating the parasites that are maintaining the facade of liberalism as a cover for their own advancement. Different fascist movements frame that around different enemies, from cabals of Jewish bankers to cabals of Jewish Marxists to liberal politicians who are secret Muslims to women to Black people to anything else under the sun. But fascists are just as good at identifying the flaws in liberalism as leftists are, because when liberalism fails, as it did in the 30s and as it's doing now, its failures are obvious to tons of people and they aren't all on the left.

i covered city council meetings for years and for 3 months, people argued for and against "urban chickens" (chickens being allowed to be raised within city limits). people were quite passionate about chickens then, and im glad midwesterners still carry strong Chicken Opinions

per IMDB

The original "pillow talk"-scene had Marla saying "I want to have your abortion". When this was objected to by Fox 2000 Pictures President of Production Laura Ziskin, David Fincher said he would change it on the proviso that the new line couldn't be cut. Ziskin agreed and Fincher wrote the replacement line, "I haven't been hosed like that since grade school". When Ziskin saw the new line, she was even more outraged and asked for the original line to be put back, but, as per their deal, Fincher refused.

he wrote another book where half of the characters are trans, maybe that would be a better thing to do this analysis for

primates live in hierarchical societies generally. when you're at the bottom, it's easy to lash out at those that are also on the bottom rung. doesn't help that these tendencies are reinforced by the upper echelons of society. 99% of the time people are deluded into scapegoating other groups
