I think the combat would be better if everything didn't feel so loving weird and floaty and slow. It feels like you're playing the game on a computer that can barely handle it, like at 20 fps. Occasionally when I try to use strike, it'll hit the wrong body part because it like lagged and selected the wrong area or whatever. I don't know why it performs so loving poorly but it really does effect the whole experience of playing the game

Other than the performance problems, if anything I felt combat was incredibly quick and lethal

Must just come down to builds or something, but it was rare anything lasted more than a few turns past the early game, and that only got quicker as I got closer to the end

Almost too much so, because in most cases getting ambushed was a reload as you'd lose half your loving party to the alpha strike in some fights

Just save often. Main place I notice CtD is going from Inventory/Character screen. If you play 8 hours and no crash you are probably good to go. I’m hoping some of this lessens with a patch.

On normal, every fight takes ages whilst I'm not really under significant threat. The usual solution to easy combat here would be to turn the difficulty up but in this case it would make it take even longer.

In XCOM the combat is usually limited to 3-4 pods of 3-4 enemies per map, but here most encounters are with 5+ enemies that all usually take a full turn of most of the party beating on them to take down. In other CRPGs combat flows in real time and you can pause the action, so more trivial enemies will just fall quickly.
perhaps hot take: i will take slow as poo poo turn based every single day over rtw/p

The combat is honestly even faster and more lethal than XCOM to me, mostly because good cover and LOS breaking objects aren't as common or as conveniently placed. On the higher difficulties combat basically feels like rocket tag; on SJ past the very beginning of the game you kind of have to either pop enemies immediately or risk having squadmembers go down.

I wish I could reliably find linkages because putting fire on an extended range wide cone shotgun was fantastic for loving up the whole of creation until I needed a higher rank gun.

I also had a explosive crossbow and it was really underwhelming, but I've been holding onto this Explosive Linkage for the entire game and I wonder if it's really worth using. Fire is great against fleshy things, energy is nice against metal, but is just making your Big Guns or something similar explosive really that helpful?

Depends on your background/quirk/other skills. Energy big guns with microwave research is probably better overall, and if you're going to minmax the game your explosive expert will quickly reach a point where he kills everything with one rocket anyway.

automatic weapons, explosives and sneaky poo poo are a great combo. you can lean pretty hard on the crossboom and an extended mag for a while, it's like giving every shithead on the map their very own grenade. doesn't explode 'til the end of the first turn but you're pretty much done after that. fun times.

drat it game is very good but very frustrating. I timed my load screens, 2 minutes from the start menu to get into the game, and a minute and a minute and a half for screen transitions. And if you get really messed up in a fight you either have to blow a bunch of consumables or wander off to the nearest doctor which is probably like 4 load screens there and back. Also I hosed myself over without even picking up on it. Level 9, I meant to make one Ranger my weapon modder and one my armor modder...somehow made them both armor modders and didn't pick up on it until right now. Don't know how I'm going to fix that poo poo.

Errr, I made my original duo Gotrek and Felix, which is kinda funny cos you can make a short squat dude with a bright red mohican and the death wish quirk, however, I am finding that a purely melee strength character that can't wear armour at all does not translate well to a lot of fights. Is there any way to change or remove the quirk so I don't have to restart the game?

Turns out I'm using Lucia as my weapon modder so things arn't quite as bad as I feared. Still that's 6 skill points wasted. Which isn't great. Wonder if that's just worth scrapping the character and redoing him.

Also intelligence is just '+x skill points total' yes? If so I went and made some more mistakes.

You can always dismiss and then make a new ranger if you want to 'respec', to everyone asking about it. It's effectively the same thing, and makes me wonder why they didn't just include a respec feature. Could have tied it into the cloning dude, even.

The int bonus is a one time bonus of skill points and not a bonus every time you level up.

It definitely feels like a dump stat after you max out coordination and strength/perception

Crits are actually insanely strong since they do like 300% damage at max Int and you can easily get to 33%-50% crit chance. The skillpoints are trash but thats not the main point of the stat anymore.

Perm.

Strike meter is really nice (it can win battles easy) but on some guys I sit at 2 still and do alright. Int I try at the very minimum to do 4 mainly due to crits. 6 is better but it is not a priority stat. Snipers get max awareness, high int and decent coord but 8 coord didn't mean they fired twice reliably but they could move to their perm position (if I hadn't gotten there yet), mark target, shoot and maybe pop a bot or turtle. Jodie is great at this and is a backup low level healer since my leader is doing a leadership perk. Melee? Str max, coord max and speed high with 6 int min. There is a two melee weapon perk that raises the speed by .5 that is ... quite nice. For explosives/big guns? I still put in a good str score as I don't want them dropping when they rush to get position.

I've seen the combat lag sometimes on my XBone OG but it doesn't bother me overmuch. Seen the lag especially when precision strike is up. Definitely something inXile should fix. Also wish they could let you tweak the video settings some. Maybe lower the res of the animations in vid settings for systems like mine that might not handle the compression and whatnot as well as their devices. The CtD thing might also be helped with this and that can drive people crazy. I'm used to it when games first come out but many would hit either two or more and go scream on the web. Probably invoking Hitler, mothers or something awful. That would drive away people looking to buy the game and most of us in the thread don't want that.

Other things I would add if it was me
More perks. Add some passive perks in there too for some branches. I'm thinking more for leadership and the convo skills. A perk that lets you raise one of those rear end skills by +1 would do.
On perk talk: more stabby/slashy perks under melee. I want attacks of opportunity and samurai back.
Backgrounds. The +1 convo or perception (like Mannerite) backgrounds are kinda lame. Even a +2 would be better and it's still just a minor boost. The +1 perception? Maybe a +2 to sneaky poo poo. I really like most of the backgrounds.
Quirks. I like them but some of them are never going to be used as they are lame. The no armour one is terrible, for example. Sadomasochist is nice as its a nice boost with a brutal penalty.
Mods. Have them be able to be removed or make them easier to find and cheaper to buy. I'd prefer to be able to remove them like in W2. Also a nozzle for your flamethrower that narrows the cone but makes it longer distance.
Int - still would have added a skill point plus at some point. Maybe at int 6 you get a skill point at every other level, 8 you get 1 a level and 10 you get 2 every other level. Yeah combined with poindexter you could make super skill monkey.
Pet talk: rez pet perk would be nice. Or the ability to send your animals to a pen if you want to dismiss them. Yes, I admit I am mainly thinking of Major Tom though he should, if dismissed, find a perch atop your massive war room computer as its warm and he's a jerkcat. Pet armour? Also a perk maybe to get pets to toggle non aggressive and aggressive? I've had times pets just sit there when I'm getting chewed up and could use a friend and other times they charge headfirst into a gunline. Note: pushing pets out of the way with your vehicle does make them passive (mostly).
For my ultimate stoner dream DLCs: More from Cochise AI refugees. Also take a note from NV and make another faction (doesn't have to be new) that gives you a complex choice endgame path as well as more rep and quests. Bototariats Unite! Seriously a funny Union of Botiat Socialist Republics ending would amuse me.edit 2: Have the guy that makes songs with floppy drives do the public domain USSR anthem and play that during the whole ending. edit 3: holy poo poo
