My favorite thing about High Score so far is that there is literally 10 seconds devoted to LGBTQ material, at least in the first three episodes, and that was enough for this furious dude to come into a retrogaming Facebook group I looked at and say "NO POINT WATCHING THIS, JUST LGBT PROPAGANDA DISGUISED AS A SHOW ABOUT VIDEO GAMES" That study that shows men think teachers are biased against them if they do not get called on 80% of the time must be related here, like people who hate LGBTQ individuals must think something is propaganda if it addresses said individuals 0.01% of the time Edit: O.K. I spoke too soon into episode 3; it is definitely surprising that Gay Blade is part of this series that so casually ignores whole swaths of the traditional market, haha. YouTube comments are similar to most other free online forums, really - there are good and bad corners, and the larger and wider the audience is, the worse the comments tend to be. Most of the niche things I watch have perfectly civil and sometimes interesting comment sections. (When it's bad it's bad, of course. Not worse than twitter, in my experience, but that's less of a hurdle and more of a flat line on the ground.)

High Score is fun to watch but it's pretty shallow and more focused on entertainment like most TV documentaries. The RPG episode makes absolutely no mention of Wizardry or Dragon Quest, both of which are fundamental in my mind. Maybe they should have also mentioned Rogue and Star Control 2.

I've seen most of the episodes of High Score. I think it's entertaining, and they did a decent job of capturing the feel of what was going on back then. But they whiffed pretty hard on the history. As others have noted, they picked some odd things to focus on, and completely omitted a lot of things that most people would consider significant. In some cases, the omission changes the narrative. For example, the section on console wars compared Sega Genesis to the NES and acted as if it were Sega's first attempt at a home console. Or the early history, where they showed a couple of pong consoles and then skipped straight to the Channel F without any mention of Ralph Baer and the Magnavox Odyssey. Cool that they gave the godfather of video games some much deserved coverage, but not even a single sentence for the dude widely acknowledged as the father of video games? I'm stil lgoing through it, but seeing footage from the Nintendo Championship and Segas one was new to me (well I have a terrible memory). there was some neato tidbits throughout so far. Am still mad there isn't a Mention of Ralph H Baer yet.

And another day, another random 3rd Party Vidya thing: I've been wanting a clear PSX shell to go with my clear controller/memory card and Pocketstation. These unofficial shells were made in Venezuela and were out of production 13 years ago. They are VERY fragile and international shipping at the best of times resulted in busted pieces. I was actually in touch with the people in Venezuela who still have New Old Stock but they are locked down and cannot/will not export at the moment. By shear chance I found a clear purple here in Australia for a reasonable price considering it comes complete with a console so I don't even have to transplant internals!

Said he would send me one as a gift once they get it all going!

I do a bit of behind the scenes stuff for a number of channels (supplying hardware, fixing their gear, advice etc). Meanwhile I've been pissed off on a build of junk PC parts that I know worked for a few hours. No screen, CPU fan pulses and thats it. Gotta find a PC speaker to see if boot beeps can help.
