Louisgod posted:to be completely fair, outside the insane fires we're seeing now, Oregon in general is a great place to live as we have great water, lots of local produce and rain a good part of the year. Maybe I'm being optimistic with thinking wildfires will die down after a good portion of the land is already burned but hey let me grab on to something to justify still living here, I need this And before we get to the point of climate future the state governments will have an impact and going someplace where CHUDFORCE is already in power feels dicey.

Trying to find up to date info about the fires and evac orders is insanity inducing. Everything is split up between different counties sites and their fb/twitter pages, and the counties vary in their level of information or even warnings issued, it seems. Like one town on the other side of the county line may be under warning, with nothing on the other side. Or it's collated onto a news website that may or may not be regularly updated. And orders are often given by road name, which is not helpful if you are unfamiliar with the area. And the nyt updates are behind the paywall, lol. I'm new to Oregon so is this just another symptom of the hollowed out and failed state of the US or do other people know ways to find info on this stuff that I'm not aware of?

What part of Oregon are you in? I mean everything right now is a clusterfuck because of how sudden the fires came and how quickly they're changing and part of it is the disjointed and underfunded government. You should also be getting emergency notifications on your phone if you're near a zone that needs evacuation and whether it's phase 1, 2 or 3. If you're in the Eugene/Springfield area like me, I've been keeping the local sites open and refreshing for updates, especially since the Holiday Fire is ~10 miles away from me. https://kval.com/ https://www.klcc.org/ https://www.kezi.com/

Seems like Sioux City-Omaha-Lincoln-Des Moines wouldn't be bad options either, climate-wise. Just don't live too close to the Platte or Missouri rivers when springtime floods jump the levees.
