priznat posted:I’ve heard armadillos can be a real threat to cars and drivers too, when startled they reflex jump to about windshield height and are pretty solid so can just cannonball right through when the car is going at speed. In theory. In my experience they startle when the car gets directly over them. WHAM, right into the bottom of the vehicle. Fun fact: armadillos explode like blood-filled watermelons when that happens.

I can see it being more of a problem in Texas, with long roads through open country. We have the same kind of animal in Florida. I've hit two of them, both at night on roads with heavy vegetation to either side. They can't see very well. A few have bumbled into me leaving for work early in the morning. *Rustle, rustle, rustle*, *bump*, *boing*, "HOLY poo poo!" I don't know that they have much to be afraid of here. Gators and maybe coyotes? IME, dogs give them a wide berth.

PhotoKirk posted:Armadillos are pretty cool. I've only seen a couple live ones in the last 40+ years in here Texas. We had one in our parking garage one day, I shared some apples with him. One of the coolest sights I remember seeing was an armadillo rooting around in my parent's backyard. Neighbor's cat walked up to sniff it, bat at it a few times before the 'Dillo just gave it a look and went back to searching for food while the cat walked away visibly upset that it couldn't play with or eat the strange creature.

The flaming forklift is right in front of one of the two dispensaries that burned down. Winds were crazy, embers raining down a mile from the fire. A lot of people saved their houses and god knows how many other people's by stomping little fires and dousing with stored water. Phoenix got hit hard too but I assure you this video is from Talent. Come visit! It's lovely!!! I'm hole up in a cabin in the mountains, no AC, the smoke just got here. My apartment complex was spared but the cops told me I have to leave. No power no water no sewer. Police won't let you in but they'll let you out so if you sneak through the backroads you can check on your property and then just scoot past the cops and back onto the freeway. Gonna try that tomorrow before going to work. I left my sleep apnea machine behind...

CommieGIR posted:"Rollback plan? We don't have no god damned rollback plan" There's redundancy in place. They don't have to work that fast, they're just showing off. Even then, there's like a hundred of them. For at least the last twenty five years it's taken three guys to do a cut, probably longer considering how often att upgrades their cos (which is next to never since they fired all their IBEW techs and use contractors) All the guys in that video were union electricians. Now there's only one IBEW guy in the building, and if the union rep comes in all the contractors scatter because they're moonlighting since the hall doesn't have tech work for them. It's a fuckin sad mess
