i've filled out a lot of state assistance paperwork for myself and others in the US and nothing got even as close to as invasive as that, i'm blown away honestly lol

Isn't it basically the same here? You have to fill out similar forms and provide like 50+ pages or more of documentation.

There's like municipal secret surveillance corps where they determine if borrowing your ex's car is grounds for indicting you for benefits fraud.

Being outed happens in Denmark, yes, but is more the result of the petitioner being really sloppy about outing their finances, the surveillance is more or less volunteer based( by which I mean jealous citizens narcing on recipients and the odd sagsbehandler deciding to snoop on clients on their off time) - but you don't have to answer if you have sex or with whom, no.

E: which is not to say our welfare system isn't a kafkaesque nazi mess, it most certainly is.

They have full access to your bank account. And depending on the municipality there most certainly are teams conducting surveillance both physical and online and determining a reicipient's fate based on ridiculous interpretations of minutiae. Living with someone who isn't your spouse (in which case different means testing would apply) also requires documenting relationship status, just not as extreme as "Describe your toilet habits". Yet.

If something like this would be here in poland then with our stupid homophobic government I would be fined because I live with my girlfriend while being unemployed, thankfully I was not able to fill for unemployment because I have to do it in my family town that I will never return to again because toxic family. At least I am going to sign job papers next month so finally I will have health insurance

This is horrific just on the surface, but it's also a 'death by a hundred cuts' thing, too.

Have your own laundry? Cut benefit by $10 a week because you're not having to go to a laundromat.

Share a house? Cut benefit by $15 a week because you can huddle together for body heat during the winter rather than use a heater.

Have to share a bathroom? Cut benefit by $20 a week because you can share toiletries with your housemate.

Having sex with someone? Cut rate by $80 a week because they can buy your food and pay your utilities.

Here in the US I fill out some basic address information, give them a bank account, and attest under penalty of law that I am out of work. That's literally it. Might be different in other states, but here it's a 20 minute process on a website.

Another horrific and similar thing right-wing governments around the world love to do these days is brag about how they're so civilized and tolerant because they accept gay refugees from uncivilized places where they kill you for being gay, but then when gay refugees actually show up to claim asylum they're like "lol no not unless you prove you're gay by presenting notarized documentation of all the gay sex you must have had, PS if you dont produce those documents we'll deport you back to your home country where being gay is a capital crime and you're now on record as a gay person"
