Soo Anez is out... https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-54200843 Her vote share might go to fellow fascist Camacho which would be good for the MAS, as more goes to Mesa it will be harder to get a first round win. And Mesa will be more than happy to work with the fascist endorsements in the second round if it comes to that

They're sending a lot of the same "international election observers" to Bolivia for the upcoming elections. This includes the guy who ran OAS's 'observations' that put out fraudulant and incompetent claims that swept the right wing fascists into power in a coup in Bolivia. MAS looks favored to win again, so they're prepping to do something about it.

I remember some middle class Bolivians ranting about how the rural poor's vote for MAS don't know what's good for them, and used the example how rural schools were wasting money by buying computers as an example. Not take home Chromebooks of course, but just like regular computers for the school.

The funniest part, regarding Bolsonaro and family, is that they are a lot more illiterate than Lula ever was, each one of them. Jair can barely talk, and he and his sons cant write simple tweets without showing how dumb and ignorant they are The difference between they and someone like Lula is that Lula really barely had any formal education, but he knows it. While the Bolsonaros are like that typical middle class businessman who studied at private schools and even graduated in college but cant write an email in proper portuguese cause they obviously never read a book in their lives. And yet, they still think they are part of the intellectual elite and have the right to call people like Lula dumb and illiterate. Basically because they paid for it Elias_Maluco fucked around with this message at 12:59 on Oct 16, 2020 |

So Bolivia is voting on Sunday. Aņez ended her campaign and endorsed Carlos Mesa, the "centrist" who loves to throw his lot in with fascists. They tried to get Camacho to suspend his campaign, too, so they can "do the Biden" and have a single big candidate standing against the terrible indigenous socialists, but Camacho wouldn't do it. However, polls even with just Aņez dropping out were very close in so far as that MAS needs 40%+ and 10% difference to second place to win in the first round again, and the last polls mostly showed them well above 40%, but with not quite 10% advantage. On the positive side polls usually undervalue the rural indigenous vote, on the negative side, this time around the elections are firmly controlled by the coup government, and one of the changes they made (with the endorsement of the EU observers and USAID observers) is less transparency in the quick count. So they might just do just the thing they falsely accused the MAS of, fix just enough votes to prevent an outright win in the first round, and then hope that with Camacho endorsing Mesa in the second round they can win there. Nevertheless, the first round being anything but a MAS win would be very suspicious. On a positive note, the social movements and MAS are more united than before the last election, so I expect them to organize heavily against fuckery. On the other hand, if the right wing makes it to January with a manipulated election, "tough on Venezuela" democrats surely will have the attention span to make it stick this time as compared to that loser Trump!

A plausible strategy for the coup government voltron to "win" these elections that I have seen thrown around is that the changes to make the quick count less transparent have been made so that they can publically claim that the quick count on election night shows that there was no first round win, and that there has to be a run off second round. Then they can draw out the full count as long as possible and try to create as much unrest on the streets as they can, and get their international allies on the horn same as last time, denouncing the violent socialist thugs that are protesting (even though it's gonna be the fascist groups burning down poo poo again/the police killing protesters). At the end of the show, they will announce that public trust in the full count has been lost and that there has to be a second round by default, where they can bring Camacho and the other extreme right splinters into the right wing voltron... One can only hope that the increased unity of the social movements and MAS after the coup months will be effective at combating this.

human trafficking is very common in latin america, but generally it's done through job advertisements for "work" abroad which gets people to sign up themselves and makes a good distraction for victims families and law enforcement, it most definitely doesnt work by calling people, tracking their phones and going to their house with a large cartoonish bag to grab them with.
