Their first album is far and away my favorite because it sounds like pure drunken party metal. It sounds like if Roadhouse was a metal bar and they were the house band, instead of the blind slide guitar guy. I like their other albums too but they just don't have quite the same vibe.

Hoping hearing something awesome reignites my interest in tunes. Havukruunu was already mentioned but I'll second that because unless something truly miraculous comes out, it's a shoo-in for my AOTY. New Unleash the Archers is v. good too. Other choice picks from this year so far: Earth Rot - Black Tides of Obscurity Nightwish - Human :||: Nature Alestorm - Curse of the Crystal Coconut Finntroll - Vredesvävd (only just came out but it's the same extremely consistent Finntroll quality as always) Falconer - From a Dying Ember Graceless - Where Vultures Know Your Name Dark Forest - Oak, Ash & Thorn Vader - Solitude in Madness

Anyway, The Ocean is releasing a new album next week. I can't loving wait. All the tracks they've released so far were great and so were all their past albums. I wonder if the instrumental album will tower over the normal one again…

Alkymist owns, it's doom for folks who grew up in the 90s, and I mean that in the best possible way. Former members of Detest, Gas Giant and, uh, Düreforsøg. E: If you like the Danish stoner/doom sound, tjek out Konvent and Gaia.

The album version of that cover is obnoxiously fun, but that remix was just plain obnoxious. Also I listened to the whole album it's on, and was positively surprised. It's really really solid for that kinda folky filmscore melodeath.

Yeah the new Deftones sounds a little more psychedelic so far, loving it. Edit: Whole album is really solid and well balanced. Some of these riffs are downright ferocious like Urantia and Radiant City! Grindcore ASMR fucked around with this message at 06:26 on Sep 25, 2020 |

It's a solid mix between Around the Fur and White Pony, imo. Seriously digging this record.

Definitely a more prominent shift into the spacier heavy shoegaze/post-rock sound that's been happening gradually for a while; other than a few riffs I almost hesitate to call it a metal album, and that's not a criticism. Chino's shouts are still there on a few tracks, but I think This Link is Dead is the only time he actually screams on the album. It's got some familiar elements, but it's different from anything they've done.
