Seasons 2-4 are the peak of the series. Lots of good stuff in there. The way I understand it is the creator originally only had five seasons of show in him, but the actors had contracts for six, so they did another season....and then the show just kept shambling on. At some con they joked about how the network was a cruel god who would not let the brothers die.

The brothers have gotten to the point where they are basically unstoppable special forces level killing machines. They recently explained that by having them lose their ”luck” and become “normal people“ for a little while. It was sort of an acknowledgment that these two have managed to avoid dying for so long only because they have some sort of magical edge to them that they were unaware of. You’re right in that around season four or five it got a bit silly but it’s still a fun show. Hell I’ve watch so much of it that I kind of have to finish at this point
