Because I sure haven't heard about any Origin VR. And you can't buy the Pro Ea Play sub on Steam to play with Steam VR. So I don't even know if by subbing to to PEP I'll get the option to try out VR.

Sadly I sold my VR headset to get a Quest 2 so I can't fully test, but when I try booting up the game in Orgin, it starts up Steam VR. (even without a headset)

Again, Facebook absolutely can and does permanently delete accounts for any reason or no reason, without takebacksies; they've done it to me. If you buy one of these and get the account with your games on it deleted, I will lol

The question is can it still be used as a steam headset at that point.

Seriously. As VR players we get 30 minute indie games shoved at us for $30 dollars, like I'm not gonna buy a AAA Star Wars Original Trilogy space shooter, with a full campaign and full cross play multiplayer for $40 because of some little niggles lol.

Even if it's flawed this is the most exciting VR release since Alyx.

And most of the reviews I have seen are extremely positive. The only thing that sucks is I was hoping to buy it on PC for VR, and then for PS4 in a later sale so I could kick back and play on the couch, bu there appears to be no cross save progression :sigh:

It takes less than an hour on Normal, and there's no locomotion but it's a lot more polished than the trailer makes it look. Recommended.

Am I right thinking the Facebook account thing is still just for people who are buying an Oculus new and don't already have an account set up? I really don't want to have to deal with any of that Facebook poo poo and was under the impression I wouldn't have to worry about it for another three years according to their initial statement. Going by that tweet from the last page I'm thinking I shouldn't even attempt to link it with Facebook and I'll just sell the thing and buy another VR headset as soon as they get to the point of forcing it.

Kind of hope another company takes the lead on standalone headsets since being able to actually load things onto it and take it places is the main reason I got a Quest in the first place over any of the other options.

It's already forced as of today I believe. You could have an older oculus account grandfathered in for the next 3 years but any new purchases have to create a FB account. Based on my personal experience a new one will get locked pretty quickly and you'll need to upload a gov. ID to unlock it.

What they've said is that from today anyone "setting up a new Oculus device" will need a FB account. I'm not clear on whether that means "you can no longer create a new Oculus account" or "you can no longer use an Oculus account to do first time setup on a headset". I'm sure the second one is what they would like but I don't know if it's what they've actually implemented.

My main thing is being able to load MP4 files that I've created onto it and watch them without having to deal with Facebook at any point, so sounds like I'll be able to keep doing that at least. Kind of regret never getting around to playing Lone Echo though, it's an Oculus exclusive and I'm not jumping through their hoops just to play it.

I dunno its really not all that crazy?

I play iRacing in really low settings for the highest frame rate and barely notice the difference, where in flatscreen I can nitpick pixels all day if they aren't the highest detail textures and models and shaders.

You just really don't need it as much in VR, feeling everything around you in stereo 3D more than makes up for a slight loss of graphical fidelity.

And you want that smooth frame rate to feel good.

They probably assumed that anybody who drops $400 on a VR headset probably has an Xbox pad sitting around, and didn't bother to develop for the VR controllers.

Doesn't the Rift have a built-in Xinput emulation mode? You'll be missing a few buttons compared to Xbox pads (no D-pad, no view button) but you might be able to make it work. That said, just use a gamepad. It was designed for gamepads, being a console release, so they'll work just fine.

E: V Yeah, grabbing and throwing dice could be pretty easy in VR, and placing chips is more intuitive than using a mouse or whatever to make bets.

Aight Star Wars Squadrons is really nice in VR. Excellent cockpit feel, good VR interface, and all that wonderful classic XvT power management stuff. Things take a lot more shots to kill than they did 20 years ago, but oh well.

Joystick support is currently fucky (there's a bigass deadzone that can't be removed), but it controls well with a gamepad, with just enough aim assist to make it work. If you enjoyed House of the Dying Sun and want that except it's bigass Star Wars poo poo, then this is your game.

I reeeaaaallllly hope they fix this joystick deadzone issue, though. I have an extended joystick, so this means I gotta move the fucker like 3 inches to get any input. It's basically unplayable with my simpit :(

Ah gently caress my cpu is under min specs for squadrons. But I just built this bad boy in.... 2014? Guess I’ll be upgrading sooner rather than later between this and alyx.

Also I posted probably a month or so about m right touch controller having a squeaky trigger. I just sent it off for an rma yesterday after a long back and forth with support, during which time my left controller started buzzing really loudly anytime the rumble was used so I was able to get them both sent back. Still waiting on an email on any info from the replacements being sent back to me though. It was fairly easy it just took awhile and they had me send videos of both controllers loving up. Worth pestering them if you have the squeak imo.

I’ll make another post once I get the replacements.

Between the deadzone thing and reports of input lag with joysticks but not mice I'm probably going to use software (TARGET in this case) to emulate kbm with my HOTAS setup rather than binding it as a joy. I also have a center mounted stick with an extension so deadzones are not something I appreciate being imposed on my controls, hopefully they address it or the mouse controls are not as bad
