I have spent hours watching the live feeds on Nautilus and other deep-water rov's. I find it so cool that we can literally watch discoveries as they happen. Plus, it really humanizes the scientists as they geek out on things and make jokes. I've gotten fairly decent at identifying a lot of the critters. Squat lobsters rule!

Kennel posted:Is that some sort of cock? It's a francolin. A yellow necked francolin to be exact. Mean birds. When I lived in Kenya, we had 2 cats in the house. Big, tough bastards of cats. Each one over 20lbs, and they routinely took down birds, hyraxes and I once saw the smaller of the two chase off a monitor lizard twice her size. When francolins were in the yard, these cats would sprint in to our bedroom and cower under the bed. The francolins were that mean to the cats.

So we definitely evolved a bit together and that's why we're such good buddies.

That's quite cool! Here's a salamander that I found Saturday, it's a blue-spotted salamander (Ambystoma laterale):

CarForumPoster posted:We inherited an outdoor cat with our house that does this. Here he is. He added to his kill list this morning...a mole. He left it immediately outside our door step as he does all his presents. I've never even SEEN a mole in real life before. What kind of cat kills bats, moles and catfish?
