Really it comes back to the hubris and stupidity of not actually getting tested every day when good therapies exist for early treatment. The Washington Post had an article today talking with experts about how the decision to admit someone to the hospital early is an extremely subtle and complex process and definitely didn't talk about how Trump and Christie being VIPs had anything to do with it.
