YOLOsubmarine posted:Even teams with professional grounds crew and millions of dollars often can’t keep their field in decent enough shape to avoid destroying players knees, and those fields only get used once or twice a week. I feel like trying to turn a bunch of random sites in one city into fields that could survive the abuse of repeated NFL practices and games probably isn’t possible on a short timeframe. the point I was trying to make was more "even in a city horribly plagued by COVID and way too tiny to handle the entire National Football League we could scrounge up enough fields and hotels to theoretically manage it; everywhere else really has no excuse //// the nfl really has no excuse for not being able to manage it anywhere else"

I appreciate the ideas, but I think the Titans should agree to be relocated to Sacramento. There they would have a dedicated yet confused fan base. They could be contenders for a handful of years before falling off a cliff due to seemingly bad officiating and proceed to overpay fringe great players until they fall so far in to irrelevance that they get neither stars nor picks. ...Wait, what sport is this?

It's not like every City in the US doesn't have at least 10 football fields fire high schoolers to play at. Hell some of them are nicer than lower tier NCAA div 1 teams stadiums.

Schedule wise the bubbles would have been pretty simple with the other conference you were going to play. AFC East/NFC West AFC North/NFC East AFC West/NFC South AFC South/NFC North Play your own division 3 times each = 9 games Play the other division 2 times each - 1 random game = 7 games Obviously you lose some interconference matchups but you could alleviate it with one bubble switch around midseason or starting with the out of conference games then moving into the 2nd bubble after a bye week.

Put them in literal bubbles. All the football players and coaches have to spend the next few months inside giant hamster balls. It'd improve player safety and turn football into a giant game of pinball, win/win.

Anyway, even if you could come up with a way to house and feed the thousands of people involved in some kind of bubble, you’d still be asking them to become hermits for the best part of six months, a big ask especially for people with families and/or vulnerable relatives, who really can’t join the bubble without complicating the already-complicated whole thing by several orders of magnitude, and all this while relying on everyone in the bubble to not be an idiot. Australia was doing great quarantining everyone who came into the country until (this was the rumour at the time anyway) some of the quarantine hotel employees started loving quarantined arrivals and brought the virus back, resulting in all of Melbourne being locked down for weeks.

Putting aside the scheduling challenges and potential forfeitures, it can't be great from a competitive perspective to allow a debilitating virus to just rampage through your roster unchecked.
