Quebec is the eldest child of the family that never got a real job and never moved out of the house. But Mommy/Daddy Canada love him the most and guilts the most successful member of the family (Alberta) into paying off his gambling debt.

Ontario has the most money. Like, by far. It's also the most boring province so it's more like the member of the family who makes a large and stable income by being CAO of a company that makes paperclips

Mostly because of the former to be honest, the St-Laurent river is pretty important for trade and commerce. Also Montreal is the third/second(depends on how you count population) biggest city in the nation, and have a lot of head office from European companies station there and is an education hub. On another note a lot of people don't get that we are more ardent on secularism then most other culture in America. When we talk about the separation of state and religion we really mean it, because of our past with the Catholics church keeping us exploited and in the dark. Ironically, the values from the church is is probably why we are tending more toward the left then, again, most other culture in North America.

Even the mere possibility that Quebec would secede had an impact on Quebec's economy that was roughly equivalent to dropping a nuke on Montreal

But I'm glad its going on, if only for the Charter challenge.

Seems to punish 1 or 2 religions that mostly have adherents of a darker complexion more so than the one with the giant symbol in the National Assembly. Anyway, this probably isn't the thread for Quebec religious laws.

The first time I visited Montreal we got lost and ended up in a residential area and some guy looked down from his balcony, noticed we were clearly lost, and came running down to help us. I always thought he was being a good fellow, but maybe he just wanted to get rid of us?
