Like your missus I was not at all in this for the theory, I just wanted the practical stuff so I could argue more authoritatively at work for a better standard of collections care. I was honestly expecting the theory to be a lot of wishy washy liberal guff, but it turns out these mild-mannered curators have all been waving the red flag all along. The few people I know studying museums are either very socialist or anarchists and want to destroy museums (conceptually or literally). Of all the cultural/arts 'clusters', heritage seems to be the true frontier between people clutching onto the idea of a museum against everyone else in museums and can see the intersectionality of everything they do. That's how it's supposed to work under the Apple/Google framework, to strike the right balance between public health and privacy. Might be time to book a test.

Yeah it seems the actual gatekeeping outside of the app is less than thorough. You need to self-isolate but not have a test if you're living with someone who's tested positive, but not if you've been near someone for a prolonged time who's tested positive. It's erring on the side of reckless. Is it possible for you to self-isolate for a few days to see if you get symptoms?

I'm honestly thinking of deleting the app because at the moment it just drains my battery and doesn't do anything useful.

The google/apple framework tells you you've been in contact with someone, but then the app itself decides if it was a long enough contact to warrant an isolation If it doesn't tell you to isolate you don't need to worry Ideally it wouldn't tell you at all if it wasn't important but the framework won't let anything block the notifications I've had 4 pings but nothing enough to worry about. Not really surprising as I'm spending 5 hours a day checking people into a pub. I'm with them for a minute or two at most but then no further close contact. These days both me and the customer wearing a mask too

I'm confident that Starmer will show zero tolerance to this, as he does all forms of bigotry, so we can expect him to say nothing at all and maybe in two months Angela Rayner will say he ought to reflect on his conduct.

19th Century style political cartoon idea for someone good at art (what happened to our official thread cartoonist?): A gallows with Kieth Starmer holding one end of an extremely long rope that loops up and over the top and then all the way back down to the ground where Boris Johnson is happily wandering about unimpeded by the rope around his neck because there's about eight foot of slack in it. All-caps text at the bottom reads GIVING THEM ENOUGH ROPE

yes but the real villains of the pandemic are people on furlough and working a second job. Rich people work hard to be rich and we can't question them, but if one of your neighbours is scamming hundreds of pounds then that's just NOT ON

Is there a sliding scale for corruption? If I give a Tory councillor the rest of my pack of monster munch can I get the contract to fix all the potholes in the parish? Then I reinvest the profits from filling them with sand and piss into buying an MP a hearty lunch and am put in charge of all the country's prisons.
