pretty fucking embarrassing to watch

Benne posted:

Are people still pretending that MJF is a bad wrestler

just because people have a different opinion of a wrestler to you doesn't mean that they are pretending that they aren't good: and to assume otherwise is weird. Pretty sure tweets with a similar sentiment about WWE wrestlers have been made fun of in this thread for very similar reasons.

Here's the thing: a lot of New Japan fans were not necessarily big fans of the Elite (especially by the end where BTE stuff seemed to be impacting on New Japan booking which isn't so great if you aren't interested in watching that stuff) and thought that New Japan got better when they left - I'd agree with that: losing Omega was sad and Page could have been something good there but that's about it. That's where the scepticism towards a partnership comes from - most people probably wouldn't mind if it wasn't anything deeper than Omega coming in for a few big matches and some things in AEW that you could willingly ignore but if you like New Japan as it is now more than it was two years ago its natural to not want it to go back to how it was. I certainly have no interest in MJF randomly showing up for a G1 or whatever when you have people like Satoshi Kojima that can't get into a G1 anymore since the roster is so large: especially since I don't think he's very good and stylistically he's a terrible fit and would probably die a death in New Japan.

STOP DOING HEROIN
People always complain about AEW fans being annoying and loud, which I never actually see in my timeline, but I see plenty of smarmy rear end in a top hat Western NJPW fans complaining about AEW.

Just an endless seas of white dudes who insist on saying "puroresu" in an exaggerated accent.

I would rather see Cody back than any of The Elite except Hangman (who isn't Elite any more, I think?) as long as they don't make him wrestle Juice again.

Cody shouldn’t have dyed his hair until he lost a Loser Quits Bleaching Their Hair match to Okada

I am. 2017 is a long-rear end way away, since AEW started, Cody has been batting a thousand in the ring. I bet my house Cody vs. Okada today with a crowd would be a MOTY candidate.

I mean the first Okada vs Cody match was very good, another one with Cody having figured out “work like my dad but with high spots that he was too big to do” would definitely produce something.

Cody’s probably got the easiest route back in of any of them anyway, so far as I can tell he never bitched or complained or tried to change booking or did anything but do what was asked of him by Gedo, try to move tickets for the company, put over Juice strong (as best he could with a bum knee, anyway) when he was asked to, and left the Dome shaking everyone’s hands and thanking them for the opportunity. No complaints about not getting a curtain call at Dash, just operating on the assumption that yeah, one day, he’ll probably be back in that ring, it’s not like he’s retiring or anything.

Of course, Cody just wants to be like his dad so he’s going to conduct business like his dad and not burn a bridge unless he absolutely has zero intent of returning to a promotion, like WWE. It’s also probably always going to be the smartest move he’ll make wherever he is.

Gedo is also the world's biggest Dusty Rhodes fanboy, so he's got that working in his favour too.

How much of this is just extremely online NJPW fans holding grudges against The Elite for leaving and *checks notes* being successful? Cause it just looks like really pathetic, petty bullshit to me.

Also echoing that aside from goons on here, the NJPW obsessives I've encountered are insufferable. Not as bad as WWE obsessives but pretty close for entirely different reasons.

i enjoy New Japan significantly more without the Elite around and most AEW wrestlers do nothing for me whatsoever so I wouldn't be excited about a partnership. Same. I'm looking forward to a BOSJ without random generic foreigners from ROH I don't care about to be honest and replacing the lower card dirtbag guys like DOUKI with dudes like Jungle Boy would be a shame imo even it it makes financial sense or whatever.

Also AEW should keep working with DDT so Kenny can stop ducking Endo and Takeshita and they can keep booking Yuka

That was my assumption too and I thought they were razzing him on BTE but then they moved on and he very much did not which makes me think... did NJPW request him? Did ROH demand he be given a slot? I will never know! He sucks though.

Smile. Win. Yay!

I personally would like to see Hangman do another G1, he really impressed me in 2018. Past him I don't watch AEW so don't really know many of the people there. Plus he can reforge his partnership with big match Yujiro which is a definite plus

Now if Katsu Nakajima came to do another G1 (or Kenoh, any of Kongoh really), that's a completely different story. Hook that poo poo directly into my veins, no matter how much of an impossibility it is
