Honestly, it looks more to me like the kind of pinning a cat tries to do with an overexcited or troublesome kitten.

He’s still trucking along! They’re kept separate because he’s old and she’s a terror but they both get (separate) time with Mina because everyone loves Mina.

Fun fact: I picked up Scootaloo on Major’s 10 year adoptiversary. A good day for good dogs.

I’ll update that tomorrow! Breeding for next year’s batch of lambs starts Monday.

We had an intern this summer, a teen in foster care who came out 2-3 times a week as part of a youth opportunity program. This was their last week because of school and getting turbo grounded but this tiny snapping turtle showed up to wish them well.

I assume this is your fault. WHAT DID YOU DO?

also, snapping turtles are kinda invasive. Locals who deal with them seem to suggest destruction with extreme prejudice, maybe soup.

But he's real cute...

Dude, ix-nay on the oice-vay.

They really are very cute. With like these perfect shaped little heads and perfect shaped ears atop their heads. Just don’t touch them since they can carry leprosy. (Although I don’t believe Arnie is the armadillo species the carries leprosy. 3 ringed armadillos do, I think.)

Hello, fellow ACD user!

This little girl (name TBD) will be coming home to live with us in a couple of weeks:

She'll be joining this goober (Reggie):

And together they'll be telling the chickens what to do. They'll probably be telling some sheep or cattle what to do next spring.

Is that what they're called in the USA? We call them Blue Heelers or Red Heelers here. An old roommate of mine had one named Gus and he was the goodest boy. We would go down to the local dog beach and he would run the entire length of it chasing seagulls and trying to bite the waves.

I've found that they're as much like hypeman/woman sidekicks as they are stock dogs. Reggie doesn't so much drive cattle, as he just sasses them in the direction I ask him to.

They get called Red/Blue Heelers here, too. Australian Cattle Dog is the formal name for the breed with the Kennel Clubs, but most farmers that I know just call them "heelers."

They're very good dogs, but they end up in shelters a lot here, unfortunately. Mostly because people get them because they're handsome (and generally cheap,) and then about 8 months in they realize that "Oh wait, I have to actually train this dog?" If you don't give the heelers a job, they come up with jobs of their own. And the jobs that heelers invent are weird and troubling to most people. But if you take the time to train and socialize them, and understand that they need a job and a person to hang out with, then they are, in fact, the goodest dogs.

I'm reminded of a story I saw of a herding dog seeing a neighbor's lawn roomba and getting upset for a while that it wouldn't respond to traditional barking and posturing before it eventually realised they could direct it by bumping it on the left or right side of its front which the machine automatically responded to by turning. At which point they apparently decided that they were herding a blind, deaf sheep but could still keep it under control, so they retired to sit and watch and make sure it stayed in its yard, confident they could handle it if it escaped.

Apparently this all ended up with the owner making sure the dog was there for doing roomba-herding every week, which made to dog very happy.
