I am the math man.

I don't think they have one. I'd imagine not much will change other than maybe tweaking how crates work if that's something they care about.

My sense with all these gaming acquisitions is that they have a ton of cash reserves and instead of using it to bet on some risky venture that could hit big they're happier taking established companies, mostly letting them do their own thing as they have and building a portfolio of games that they can leverage in the future if things like game streaming or gamepasses become a thing, and they can throw some exclusives in the Xbox pile if needed. The upside isn't as big as the risks Google and facebook take with their acquisitions, but the downside of an established profitable company is pretty minimal.

Nothing will change lol, game will continue to cater to the lowest common denominator.

AFAIK, Microsoft has a track record of being mostly hands-off with acquired studios, if anything we'll start seeing their influence once every studio finishes their current projects.

Was Ashron's Call 2 the last MMO MS actually released? I know they had, like every other publisher, a handful of MMOs in development during the MMO-rush of the late 2000s that never got released.

This will have nothing to do with ESO's future. It will still be the same game in the future under MS as it is now without MS. How you view that positively or negatively is entirely up to you.

Maybe we'll see some fuckery with the new Xbox perhaps.

asherons call is like 15 years old it means nothing

likely ESO will see no change, microsoft is just happy to own everything and mandate nothing, if theres anything to assume there will be more acquisitions

I know most of us are burnt out on ESO chapters, but $20 bucks for Greymoor is as cheap as you can expect and is less than it's value in crowns next summer.

So, my two cents on Greymoor: as a story, kind of underwhelming. The lore behind the Grey Host and the pikes and the harrowstorms is, well, kinda meh. As for Western Skyrim, well, to me it was the least exciting place ever for new content. I'm Skyrimed out. However, I know they have to do those areas eventually of we're going to get a full Tamriel, so might as well go ahead and get it over with. At least it's not a slideshow like Southern Elsweyr (for me at least).

Stuff I liked: Nords being Nords, seeing Titanborn again, seeing house Ravenwatch again, and seeing more of Blackreach. The music is appropriately creepy and amazing. Seriously, it's worth listening to the music even if you don't play the new content. The best thing for me were the castles. It's like someone said, "I want to take Castlevania and shove it into TES." When I play the Castle Thorn dungeon I can just hear the opening notes to Vampire Killer start up. They even found a way to make throwing scythes fit!

So really the aesthetic is nice, which for me was enough. I don't really play ESO for the gameplay anyway.

If you buy Graymoor at the moment you'll probably get a free house to spend all your money decorating from the event.

It's on sale at the moment too, but there are err, better deals out there than that.

The rewards for the event are up on the Crown Store. Looks like we hit 100% today, so everything, including the house, is free to pick up for the next two weeks, assuming you own Greymoor, that is.

The house is really nice. Large inside with multiple, if small, upper floors, plus a very large outside area. You can even turn the outdoor lighting off and on.

That new house really is pretty cool. I remember the big free house from the Summerset event was this gigantic mansion and I took one look at it and said "I'll never have time to decorate this place" and never went back. This one is a nice medium size, and I like how it's ready made to display your random cool poo poo. It seems like a place with an actual purpose and not just an unreasonably large house.

Recently got really invested in TES after my wife made me play through Morrowind for the first time. Grabbed ESO during the sale and I'm surprised by how much an MMO is clicking for me. We've been playing through as just a duo so far (only about a week) and I probably am only going to be doing pve forever but if the EU guild is still around I wouldn't mind an invite. It might make the crafting stuff easier, and maybe we'll want to try that terrifying Halls of Fabrication again at some point and be smart enough to get an actual group this time

Anyways I'm @xinder5 and she's @FeudalLesbian

I have the opposite problem. I have the huge house and a ton of stuff due to doing Antiquities stuff but no desire to play house dress up... I will eventually just randomly throw everything in there just to make bank space available again because that's where it all is now.

Not sure if there is a specific toolbar mod people use now, but I quite like this interface overhaul that includes some of the features that one did.

Major investment in what? time? money?
A lot of the game doesn't need either (well you need time for the content, but you don't need to grind anything). You could make a character, increase the bank and inventory size to something half reasonable rather quickly, make some alts as mules if you must, and play the questing and leveling game at your own pace.
The problem is that there are all these systems (housing, crafting, PvP, dungeons and trials, guilds, etc) that you'll come in contact with and if you get sucked in then you're on the MMO treadmill where you do need a bunch of gold for them which means either grinding and/or buying things (there's no pay to win, but there are some pay for convenience things and a lot of cosmetics if that's your thing). The MMO part also means some things, notably inventory management, are more annoying than they ought to be.
If you can just play casually then the game supports that fine, if you're the type to get sucked into grinding or collecting or house decorating then be cautious.
