There's plenty of FPS games that play really well on a controller but they're all on PS4 and run at 60FPS.

The framerate isn't throwing me, the enemies' unlimited freedom of movement vs my "running doesn't work 3/4 of the time because it requires holding down the stick that I need to hold in different directions in order to move" is throwing me.

PC, though I got (still very bad) decent-ish at Unreal Tournament for Dreamcast around 17 years ago, it uses the control scheme that Borderlands calls 'Legacy,' but I can't play that style now because I got relatively used to the new bad scheme that Call of Duty et al use.

It's a first-person shooter jammed together with the looting/MMO aspects of World of Warcraft, it's a better loving game than Call of Duty or Halo.

It's not the best game ever made or even my favorite, but I hardly believe it fair to call it "bad."

Its a silly game of numbers going up, its fun and its stylish but there's a lot that annoyed me about it. I dont think I've seen a game with a more boring skill tree

Pretty much, though if the game had come out around 2002, it'd've been groundbreaking.

I've never played through the Pre-Sequel before, I just wanna see how it goes, but I also don't want to spend two weeks on the first real boss fight. The framing device of "this game you're playing is events between 1 and 2 being relayed by a prisoner of the player faction from 2" is novel to me and means the side quests are the storyteller getting INSANELY loving distracted and that everyone listening with a gun trained on her means they actually wanna hear how it goes down even as it's irrelevant to the story.

It's cool if you find it more fun then Halo, but there's a lot to be said about having a proper, well crafted set of guns vs. ones crafted with RNG that leave you feeling like the vast majority suck poo poo. Not to mention the bullet sponge effect of Borderland's RPG balancing kinda makes the gunplay not a lot of fun far too often.

I wouldn't call Borderlands bad, but it's got a lot of flaws and sort of had the advantage of being somewhat a first of its kind in terms of loot-shooters.

Sometimes, in a city this dirty, you need a real hero.
I was gonna ask if ring fit adventure is effective for what it's trying to do. But here I am, 24 hours later, with loving DOMS in my legs after doing just the first zone.

It certainly feels like I did a workout.

Wait'll you get to the part where you have to replay an entire level because you didn't open with an AOE attack and focus down the next gremlin before the team took you down past where your Ab-guard is effective! :suicide:

I bounced really hard off of the demo. I think there was something about "the difficulty on this is tuned way higher than the regular game," which was an interesting choice. "Here, get annihilated in three turns on your first real fight" was not a ton of fun.

Octopath, at least in terms of gameplay, felt better than Bravely Default. BD had some good quality of life stuff like turning off random encounters but what the game asked you to do after you got halfway through it was horseshit and sometimes felt way too grindy

Probably not an exhaustive list, but here's some of what I remember:

- They changed the battle system from FF1-3 style pure turn based to FF10 style turn based with atb running in the background, when the way the Bravely series handles action economy is heavily intertwined with the former. This wouldn't have been so bad, except there was also no turn forecast for some godforsaken reason.

- Enemies are visible on the map as opposed to player manipulated random encounters. However, the enemies were so ridiculously aggro and fast that avoiding them was functionally impossible anyway.

- The UI was just generally clunky, with a lot of unnecessary menuing.

These are more specific to the demo, and there's no particular reason to assume they'll carry over to the full game:

- The difficulty was somewhat overtuned as a whole, but they were completely upfront about this when you started the demo.

- The available jobs were all basic as hell, with none of the quirkier options that the series has previously offered.

All of this. They have a winning formula and it felt like someone said how can I make this more generic? Like, regression to the [dragon quest]

I mean DQ is great but not everything should be DQ

Any goon reviews of Infinite Mini Golf?

It looks incredibly fun, and I'm looking for the best mini golf game that can be played locally with my kids.

I'm thinking either this or Golf with Your Friends, but this looks to be better, more courses, plus the course editor. I'm not that interested in stuff like What The Golf, since that's just bonkers crazy.

We went mini golfing about a month ago, before we had the Covid-19 second wave, so I'm thinking we won't be doing that IRL for quite a while. Anyway, they loved it, and if I can get the same situation, or as close to it as possible, on the Switch, then awesome.

I play it with my six-year old. It’s relatively good for the price. It’s not particularly difficult, but does require a bit of practice for kids. Level quality can vary wildly; you can skip those that are too difficult. Not as much course variety as I would personally like, but it does what it does well.
