Put my Wrangler up for sale today. I'm kind of sad about it, but I just couldn't drive it without the anxiety of feeling completely exposed and vulnerable in it because of my accident. especially with my son riding along, I felt very uncomfortable driving in traffic and all i could think about was what if there was an accident. I thought i was over it but I guess not :(

Didn't you get that not too long ago or am I thinking of someone else?

Re: home stereo setups, I wouldn't mind 7.1 or even 5.1 but it's a pain in the rear end if your TV is in your living room which is next to your entryway. A basement or dedicated room would make it a lot easier to have all the speakers and not have it look weird.

To be fair tho if I had a giant finished basement like you I'd probably have to do it.

I recently bought a cheap TCL soundbar + subwoofer deal and movies are now infinitely more enjoyable.

I've always had a good stereo for music, and monitor speakers on my computer setup but never on the TV.

Don't know why it took me so long to upgrade honestly.

This morning is the beginning of early voting locally. Nice crowd out, about 2 blocks of social distanced line, moving about 1/4 block every 10 - 15 minutes. Historically it's been a 15 minute max affair on day 1. Seeing people excited and present to vote makes me happy.

NZ’s election is this Saturday. Early voting opened 2 weeks ago and has been going very well by the daily reports. In my small suburb of 15k people (including non voting age) there are 4 places I can early vote and 2 more places open up on Election Day. (Traditionally, there’s a polling place at most schools, for idea of coverage). Never in my life have I waited more than a few minutes. You do not need ID to enrol or to vote. You can enrol and vote on Election Day if you need to. You can vote in English or Māori, sign language or telephone dictation. We vote with a ballot paper and tick two boxes with a pen (this year they suggest you bring your own COVID-free pen). One box is voting for your local electorate Member of Parliament, the other is for the Party you want. It’s the Party vote that defines how many parliament seats each party gets. At current polling, it’s likely the incumbent centre left Labour Party will either govern alone, or need the support of the much lefter Green Party to form a government.

Bonus round! We’re also voting in two referendums. One to allow euthanasia for the terminally ill and one to legalise weed. These have been called the refer-end-em and the reefer-endum. Current polling shows the former will probably pass and the latter will be very very close - the no campaign has been incredibly well funded (particularly by funds US groups including Scientology) and spread a bunch of lies. The legislation proposed is world beating and has taken lessons from all the places that have already legalised and tightly controls every step of the process, and includes safeguards against big tobacco/alcohol style massive corporates. 20yo age limit, 14grams max per day, can grow 2 plants for personal use, THC limits, no advertising or even display of product, stores will be required to be non-descript and licensed with strict limits on store numbers. Illegal to smoke in public, only at home or licensed premises. No allowance at first for edibles because of the fear of weed gummy bears appealing to children and dumb poo poo like that. Name me an edible that doesn’t appeal to kids? We gonna have to GM up some weed broccoli or something?

But fingers crossed!

Moved into a new place.

Mystery wall switch that landlord claims should control ceiling fan, but doesn't do poo poo as far as I can tell (not even wall outlets). Can't turn off fan with any wall switches. Pull the chain since the fan was on.

Chain snaps off. FML. Throw the breaker, remove the lamp cover (both chains pass through the glass cover).

One of the GU10 CFLs just falls out and shatters. FMLx2. Who the gently caress thought GU10 CFLs in a fan was a good idea?! GU10s don't belong in an indoor residential fixture unless they're halogen track lights. :colbert:

Can't get the chains lined back up with the (loving non-smooth glass) cover. Gonna go track down a couple of GU10 bulbs tomorrow, then figure out how to thread a drat chain through glass without it loving up the glass.

Still an upgrade over the old place (no roaches so far, vs ~10-20 a day over the old place). The place is actually somewhat square. Doors and most of the windows open and close easily (2 windows don't open at all). New place is 1998 vs 1981...

Day five post surgery and I had a sudden change in pain (it got incredibly worse) and appearance (my top right side turned into a giant blood blister over the course of about four hours), and while it wasn’t actively bleeding a lot, these things can go from “huh? specks of blood” to “old faithful” pretty quick, due to the vascularity of the site. And the whole time I’m having this internal argument; Do I go to the ER and risk covid exposure at a site I’m sure covid exists, or do I stay home and risk a sudden bleed-out/drowning in my own blood? Turns out everything is OK (ish) and I’m not showing a likelihood of a sudden heavy bleed according to a CT scan. So I made the wrong decision? The only thing I know for sure is that I’m exhausted. Every well is dry.

A new greasy/shiny something makes it easier for me, but also selling to the right buyer. And forgive me for sounding potentially predatorily opportunistic here, but I’ve long had an unscratched itch for an e46. Not that I’m in a particularly good place to be buying, but please share the car with us. I’d love to hear more.

In other news since I’m once again unable to sleep without choking due to the tonsillectomy scars draining down my throat, I went at my nose/septoplasty site with oxymetazoline, a small flashlight, and cotton swabs to clear out the mess of bloody boogers packed around my stents. I got em clear! I can breath through my nose! My septum was ruined by a dresser falling on my face when I was 3. I’ve spent nearly my whole life not knowing my near inability to breath through my nose was unusual and now, even with these giant stents in place I can breath better than I can ever remember! Well I figured I'm not gonna pay insurance to just let it sit there and take up (limited) space, might as well just get rid of it. I gave up riding motorcycles a long time ago too when i moved here, the area I live in is just too dangerous for riding and it's not all that fun to ride around here anyways. Not worth the risk.

I sold a car I'd owned for 15 years back in march. I'd spent a fair amount of cash but a very large amount of time on it over the years. Its sad but you get over it. Not having it there sitting unused and consequentially getting in my way felt awesome and the cash I got from the same was incredibly useful!

Thanks, I needed the push. It’s not that I don’t still enjoy driving it, but I have this and a 4th gen 3SGTE MR2 that I’d also be selling to fund the Evora (along side a healthy infusion of additional cash) and the idea of having a single fun car plus whatever new daily I happen to have is extremely appealing these days. Moreso than keeping my cherished 330.

Trouser, it’s the 330Ci I bought from Das Volk ages ago. It’s had most of the E46 weak points fixed, along with some other poo poo. At this point, it’s a pretty solid car that just has a few niggles to fix. Black/black with sport package, M3 shadow line trim, replica m3 bumper and mirrors, m3 and Meyle HD bushings/drivetrain mounts (gently caress polyurethane!), uuc shifter, reinforced front and rear subframes, strut tower reinforcement, new eibach sportline+Koni orange with all new mounts, repainted about 8 years ago... the list probably keeps going.

Here’s a few pics (first one with bonus MR2!):

(This pic is on stock suspension after I removed the coilovers but before I put on the Eibachs. For some reason the Eibach pic won’t loving post)

It’s been a great car and has plenty of stories, but I think having an Evora instead of these two would make me happier. Even if the Evora would likely be slower than the MR2 :-)

Ps: unlike das volk, I’m not a loving nazi

And one more pic on stock suspension

So by selling that car you get more time/opportunity to drive/own other fun cars instead. Yeah, its a bit sad but that makes it a win.

If it doesn't excite you as much anymore and another car does then let someone else take it on. If you don't you run the risk that you buy the Evora too and then the E46 just ends up sitting unused anyway..

You’re so right, I could totally see myself selling the MR2, buying the Evora, and keeping the E46 around still. The big issue there would be storage space - I want to be able to keep everything* at home and two cars is do-able, 3+ would be hard.

Nice! I love a good car-buying road trip, it’s how I got the E46 and was my first experience over (well over) 120mph. I am not buying my dream Evora anytime soon, I should have done it when it was up for fuckin’ sale!

I will need a new Cleveland daily driver at some point, maybe around the time you’re trying to get rid of one of the Acuras you don’t have yet. Let’s try and make this as complex as possible :-)

That lets me focus on getting the MR2 sold first, too, which I have far less emotional investment in. Maybe the guy I bought it from wants it back... it’s a great car, Prime built it so it’s not some hacked-together DIY job.

That reminds me, one of the big drivers behind this change is the constant fear I have over the MR2 getting JDM-stolen if I drive it somewhere. I was in Portland last week and avoided taking it out overnight ‘cause it would have been parked outside in a less-than-great neighborhood and visible from a busy street.

Mechanically fairly solid, cosmetically a bit poo poo but looks sexy from a distance. It’s fairly Quick, and I love the short NA ratios. I don’t think I’d like it nearly as much with the turbo’s gear ratios.
