RCMP have body cameras, if they wanted they could have just turned them on and recorded everything. Then they would have a record of everyones face and they could go arrest everyone the next day, just like protests. Obviously thats not happening

I cut off contact with him because he became more and more insufferable but some other friends did not. I heard stories about him like how he went to LAN parties and mute his game but blasted American right-wing talk radio recordings at maximum volume. He also liked to go on rants about how bad immigrants were even though he was born in Hong Kong. A couple years ago I saw him reply to a post of a friend of a friend on Facebook so I checked out his profile. He's a prison guard now and his profile picture was him and his prison guard friends in Judge Dredd cosplay at what looked like a professional photoshoot. I guess a lot of criticism of cops in media is lost on them like that "cool robot" meme except "cool fascism"

No way those numbers are of consequence at that magnitude, otherwise we'd be hearing nothing but that.

In theory the company who ACTUALLY processes payroll data for 40% of employed Canadians (or whatever) can do better than the Stats Canada Labour Force Survey that hits something like 2000 random Canadians, but somehow...

thehoodie posted:I assume you are talking about Derek Corrigan (whose party, Burnaby Citizens Association, is informally associated with the NDP) - he is very bad on housing. So bad that he managed to get turfed even though his party won 7/8 seats on Burnaby City Council (the other going to Joey Shithead!). I wouldn't put a lot of weight on Corrigan's views being representative of the NDP as a whole, but there is ample other evidence to show that the BCNDP is absolutely abysmal on the housing front. Today's "plan" for rent repayment being one of them. Yeah, Corrigan. He was a sneering classist rear end in a top hat, offloaded any responsibility whatsoever to other branches of government, was clearly in the pocket of condo devs, and made it apparent that homeless people and activists were ignorant scum to him. Choice quotes: 'We live in a capitalist society, we can't interfere with private property! I grew up poor and worked my rear end off to get a law degree harumph.' 'The working class are easily affording 500k downpayments for new developments now.' 'This is why I don't take advice from people wearing flannel shirts.' The whole meeting was just a giant PR blizzard about how more investment condos would magically fix everything. It's not a case of a few bad apples in the party, or whose platform is better - any party in power will always have severe neoliberal tendencies simply due to the structural location of the state apparatus relative to the griftscam pyramid that is Canada's so called 'economy'. Reality just appears to be neoliberal from up there. The longer any single person or group is in office, the more neoliberal they'll get. Election platforms are just beautiful lies - Canada is a parasite flea on America's increasingly bald head, and the function of the state apparatus is to maintain this status quo at all costs. It's decidedly better to be living in a social democracy than the alternative, especially during the covid event, but electoral politicking within the current order does absolutely nothing without a mobilized, organized movement holding their feet to the fire.

Whew I was worried we are on an uphill climb with cases in Manitoba with no support from the government but their showing of power by limiting group sizes to 5 and letting everything but bars and casinos stay open really has me at ease. And then, instead of doing anything else, just suggesting that we should do better really makes me realize our government has our interests in heart. I'm sure every Manitoban will now adhere to the basic precautions now that they've been suggested to. Whew. That was a close one, everyone but Manitoba has is under control!

Don't worry. Plan b is thinking positively. Livestreamed an hour a day of Roussin and Pallister just sitting in quiet meditation thinking positive thoughts. If that doesn't work they'll just start shooting people until numbers drop.

Code orange 2 (100+ cases a day) Code orange 3 (150+ cases a day) Then Roussin just finger wags us. (200+ cases a day) Then harder with a meaner look (leading Canada in cases) Code Red. Shut down. (20 minutes after the last living thing in the province has died) But don't worry I'm sure they'll find a way to normalize 50-80 cases a day and open er up for Christmas.

I have been curious why there's a few days' gap between new rule announcement and it coming into effect. It's obviously intentional, but what's the reasoning. "We have a confirmed e. coli outbreak at this location, so we'll be shutting it down in the next 3-5 business days." Wonder what the overall effect is too. I could see it scaring people away as much as it encourages one last hurrah.

Increasing cases and only making an announcement on a Friday to go into effect after the weekend? That's after teasing for a week they were going to make an announcement too.
