I think there's also an element of court Annie not being the "real" Annie here. Forest Annie is the one we've followed since the beginning of the series in uninterrupted fashion, so I think that affects reader perceptions as well.

I really don't know who else could be #1 other than 1. Renard, who would then have more fans than I thought or 2. Boxbot, as the culmination of a long-standing fandom joke.

Tony is too controversial for me to believe he got #1, but I can't think of any other character whose vote count we haven't already seen who I could imagine is there.

I don't know about "real" but yeah Forest Annie is "our" Annie. We stuck with her perspective while she talked to Loup, so the audience identifies with her more when faced with a choice. If the perspective had stuck with Court Annie, I think the results would have been flipped.

I'm surprised Renard and Kat weren't flipped, since she's pretty close to a second protagonist and he's more of a secondary character, but if this means we get more Renard I'm not complaining.
