But what happens if the sale falls through / the house burns down?

I think mortgage companies here would be skeptical about your down payment coming from another loan.

Well you still own the house and would likely have insurance for replacement value. So you would have to deal with that nightmare.

This is wild I’ve stayed in this house many times, watched fireworks from the porch! The woman who used to live here was a family friend, she had a giant half circle couch in the middle of the living room. Was always jealous of the many drawers in the kitchen. Downside it has one of my least favorite features, glass sink in the bathroom. Super weird to see a loft I used to sleep in posted in this thread...

I guess they decided to split up the building, she owned the whole thing and rented out the lower units iirc.

The sharpei chair in that second picture I am NOT a fan of but it is the “Grinza” chair by Fernando and Humberto Campana for Edra.

HOWEVER, the flower chair in the first picture I am a fan of because it is the iconic “Getsuen” chair by Masanori Umeda for Edra. He also designed a bunch of stuff for Memphis Milano. I absolutely hate that it’s styled in that boring all white interior.

I love me some (post-)modern art and weird furniture but goddamn this is some pretentious bullshit. It's the kind of thing rich assholes buy to make themselves seem cultured.

RoboRodent

You can't live in a house like that. There is a limit to how much weird furniture and/or art a single home can hold. You can have a weird thing as a conversation piece, sure. But your whole house can't be weird things.

Also, I'm very much not on board with this notion of positioning statues so they're peering into your windows. What the christ.

There's a limit before it all just merges into a single weird item that is the home itself. There's something unpleasant about this much weird poo poo all spaced out in a neutral setting so you can look at each item that you don't get with some artist/collectors hoard that's just loving packed with bizarre garbage.

This feels less irritating to look at.

You've just described my jewelry storage system: fine jewelry and costume jewelry piled up together on top of my dresser and my bedside table. Is it a rhinestone? Is it a diamond? Is it Swarovski? Is it paste? Who knows! (some of it I don't even know)

And on the subject of slave cabins: here is a very interesting article about a man who is attempting to sleep in every surviving slave cabin in the US. It doesn't have any pictures, though.

quote:

“I was expecting a dirt floor, so this is nice,” McGill says, lying down to sample the hard pine planks. “Might get a decent sleep tonight.”

Some travelers dream of five-star hotels, others of visiting seven continents. McGill’s mission: to sleep in every former slave dwelling still standing in the United States. Tonight’s stay, in a cabin on Georgia’s Ossabaw Island, will be his 41st such lodging.

This Atlas Obscura article has plenty of pictures, but only of exteriors.

I'm down to two tables in my quest for a 36" round all-white table. there's not many of them unfortunately. Not sure if I prefer the more traditional style or the "cafe" style, in terms of which offers more legroom. first one is a pratt table from room and board, second is the eames table.

Youth Decay
Aug 18, 2015

Pratt table is better imo, looks less "commercial"/ if you know what I mean. Although if your dining chairs are particularly roundish or curved the Eames might go better since it has those rounded legs.
