I have reconsidered. This thread was built solely to ensure every EU poster could have an equal voice, not to enforce some unified vision of "European Posting Crew". An IK is not only unnecessary, it is counter to the ideals of freedom that this thread is supposed to represent. Fine by me if other posters want to trade away their freedom, but I am opting out.

Idiot king i.e. a mini-moderator for the thread. Honestly this thread does have very diverse views by D&D standards. Everything from Private Speech fucked around with this message at 07:07 on Oct 24, 2020 |

You are right. This thread is very diverse and many viewpoints need to be at least acceptable to not be probated for. Currently ardennes is a regular in this thread enough to handle transgressions with a fairly even hand. So the handling of punishment is based in situation instead of a blood feud between croatia and herzegovina(an fictional example). Honestly do we really want a racewar of probates sparking that ends up pushing a lot of information off site? I don't want half of europe leaving the thread.

I vote for taking a Stupidity Chancellor-President instead of an Idiot King. Not only is this a better choice for a democratic union of democratic states, but it also means we can sow SA-wide confusion when talking about our European SCP.

To do justice by the enormous breadth of this thread and the wide array of opinions represented, the idiot king must be able to argue and empathize across the political spectrum. I propose an enlightened centrist or neoliberal, there can go nothing wrong.

Can somebody explain to me why in the name of gently caress does EU shutting down nuclear power stations? How is this win for anyone? What is it to be proud of? They produce 0 carbon emissions, how is this helping anybody? Coal burning plants function as normal how is this even a slightest move towards better future

It's some countries in EU like Germany that are shutting nuclear power plants down while some other countries in EU like Finland and France are building new nuclear plants. EU doesn't dictate nations energy policy. The Dutch government seems to have taken a turn towards being interested in nuclear again, as putting windmills in everyone's backyards is proving to be extremely unpopular. They can be over there, though, in those other people's backyards. A commission recently issued a report stating that nuclear power would be profitable and worth the investment, while a commission consisting of some of the same people reached the opposite conclusion some years ago.

They produce 0 carbon emissions, how is this helping anybody? Coal burning plants function as normal how is this even a slightest move towards better future Here in Belgium there was an agreement to close our nuclear plants in 2015 (I think? It's all very confusing even as a Belgian), as they were built in the 70s and 80s and as a whole we don't like the waste. This was then postponed to 2025, semi-cancelled, and now reaffirmed. So in 5 years we're closing down the plants. Some of the reactors have imperfect materials used in their construction that doesn't pose any realistic danger, but has swayed public opinion against nuclear. Due to the long uncertainty there's no real alternative to the nuclear power plants so they've kept on trucking. The idea is to have them replaced by solar, wind and hydro power, supported by gas powered plants for rainy days etc... This will of course not work as planned because the plan is stupid. The last time I checked the only party that's pro-nuclear is the Flemish nationalists because they like being on the opposite side of every issue bothering the three traditional political families.

Successive Dutch governments have generally been somewhere between neutral and positive on nuclear power until somebody tells them how much it would cost. Similarly whether nuclear power is profitable is also pretty much entirely depends on how much you're willing to pay in subsidies. Same is pretty much true for other power sources to be honest.
