So NOW... instead of taking the hill up three games to one, likely with the postseason monkey off his back, Kershaw must yet again face a pressure situation, with the hottest hitter in postseason history in the opposing lineup and the opposing team with serious momentum e: Good 'ole Dave Roberts up next in the interviews, LOL. Time to sit and watch him defend yet another game where he mismanaged the pitching. Right?!? Didn't he?!? e2: When Kenley gave up the hit he went down to his knees, facing the outfield, and pounded on the mound. Then, this is what he was doing right at the time Taylor bobbled in the outfield, now in danger not just of extra innings but losing: https://twitter.com/BlakeHarrisTBLA/status/1320225355496448000?s=20 MrMojok fucked around with this message at 06:00 on Oct 25, 2020 |

The winning runner falling down while heading home reminded me of this Cubs game from nearly 20 years ago, which also had the added craziness of their celebrity 7th inning stretch singer being removed from the stadium for threatening Angel Hernandez after a bad call: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6htcE_vvZxg

Most of the radio calls are not that great, but to be fair how the gently caress do you describe what was happening on that play, and who knows how many of these announcers are even at the game. The Fox Deportes guys killed it though.

I suppose sitting around and second-guessing the managerial decisions endlessly is dumb, because you go down all these rabbit holes and alternate realities where if THIS had happened, then later THAT might not have happened, but goddamn, Roberts. To start with, something Popete said in the other thread: Popete posted:Bellinger DHing tonight with back tightness. Pollock playing CF? Why wouldn't you move Mookie to CF? And if not from the beginning, why not move him to CF there at the end? You need to replace him in right of course, and Taylor and Pollack have almost no experience in RF, but Joc has played about 50 games out there. Hell, Kiké has played 58 games in right. Then, leaving Baez out there long enough to give up two dingers. Then, the decision to let Kenley pitch to the hottest player in postseason history, and I know he didn't walk it off but Kenley put the first pitch right down the middle and then started bouncing them. After walking Randy, that pitch with two strikes to the hitter who hadn't seen live pitching since the NYY series, he put right into the middle of the zone. I mean, why not Graterol instead of Jansen, after the walk? Jansen had already faced three batters. Sorry I'm whining, I still haven't even been able to process what I saw and I'm pissed and not thinking straight. Jansen's answers in the postgame presser were pretty sorry, too. e: I love Kenley, too. The fact is that for about three or four seasons he was one of the most dominant closers out there, probably the single best closer for a couple, but anyone who watches this team knows that his time's been drawing to a close, for a while now. e2: Just found out Roberts told Baez he was done after the 6th, then changed his mind when the Dodgers took the lead ?!?!?! My mind completely snapped and I totally forgot Graterol had already been used. He'd thrown seven pitches, I guess he could have left him in or used Floro, Wood, Gonzalez, Kelly, or McGee. Kenley Jansen in the postgame interview posted:"I didn't give up one hard hit. What can I do?" e: The same mistake on two pitches to two different hitters https://twitter.com/presidual/status/1320237325016678401 MrMojok fucked around with this message at 07:47 on Oct 25, 2020 |
