prepuce repurposed posted:those books look real 2 me The way I was explained it, is that many years ago, a guy wrote lead sheets for a bunch of jazz songs, bound them into books, and sold them across the USA out of the back of a van. It was not really a legitimate business, so he called them “fake books.” (Also because you have to come up with your notes during the performance, so you’re kind of “faking it” as a musician.) But then the big publishing companies decided to make an entirely legal version by buying the rights to the songs. They called there’re creation the “real book.” Today, real/fake books are popular among gigging musicians for a number of reasons. (Or at least, they WERE popular, before “gigs” became put on indefinite hiatus...)

Thanks Jinh and Manifisto! That one took a while to make. It especially took a long time to get a jazz drum kit working properly. But now that that’s done, it’s nice to know I’ll have it in my arsenal going forward. If you’re wondering why the lyrics don’t match the Disney movie, it’s because my sheet music book has weird incorrect lyrics. I didn’t want to bother correcting them since I was busy juggling so much other stuff. My apologies to the fans of the “rinki tinki tinki” line. Maybe I can record new lyrics at some point! But for now it’s onto the lion king. And I think I could do one or two other requests today if anyone has them!

Let it be known that the first time I have ever multitracked vocals was to record "just post" in the voice of Zazu the toucan in one track, while a different track held a sustained note. I feel good about this; like it's the way things are meant to be.

In unrelated news, I've been wondering about how I should use the sustain pedal in my piano music. I used the pedal in Lavender Blue and in I Just Can't Wait To Log In, and they might have turned out overly muddy as a result. So then I unplugged my the pedal for Almost There, and I'm not sure if it was an improvement or not. This is something I often wonder about... e: will do this one as well! couple obscure ones i'd like to hear again: i don't remember the title of the song, but the chorus repeats the phrase "tiger dick is not medicine", and it's sung by shere khan to mowgli in the jungle book the financial planning song that captain hook sings to peter pan where he explains term life insurance. i like the stanza where he says "no need to call a lawyer / it's usually cheaper from your employer" i also like "i am not afraid of birds, i just don't like them" from mary poppins |
