the fact that my greens candidate has worse teeth than I do and runs a pub has just really set an optimistic tone for me this election. i don't care what happens. i'm having a great time picking his signs up off the side of the road and setting em back up. i already have an inpatiient psychiatric process on the go for when ONP inevitably ring a bunch of poo poo in. its gonna be great.

is the media really more aggressively in favour of the lnp this qld election? pretty sure they've been like this at pretty much every qld election for ages seat polls are pretty unreliable but the greens being set to finally win south brisbane is no surprise. just trad being so scandal-prone would likely be enough to swing it even without the lnp preferencing the greens this time.

Death tax is bad because they're the two most certain things so you can't run a parallel market speculating on it

Now that Vic is going to NSW-normal, NSW people: what is life in Sydney actually like at the moment? Are you going out to pubs and restaurants as much as you used to? I'm glad we'll be able to visit friends again but can't imagine myself feeling comfortable sitting in a pub (or catching public transport) for some time yet.

I'm in Brisbane, home of the free and the brave (as long as it's inside Qld Borders thankyouverymuch) and I don't feel comfortable in crowds, and I feel a bit weird going on public transport. I can't imagine what it would be like down there in plagueland and plagueland(2).

Going to the pub pretty much as normal although if you aren't inside by 6.30pm on a nice thursday/friday/weekend afternoon you probably arent getting in for a while. beer gardens tend to fill up on nice afternoons really fast. didnt have trouble getting a table for 10+ to watch the NRL final at the pub last night, but its one of the quieter pubs in the area. what really sucks is gigs. everything is sit down, reduced capacity. kinda killed my motivation to get back out there and support local music when they are only letting like 20 people into a venue and everything is ticketed. I went from seeing 20+ bands a week to none

Seems like business as usual for most people, but you have to provide contact details. Only a small number of people wear masks, numbers are down on public transport so you will have distance.

Nightclubs are still closed but the sex on premises venues are open in Sydney, which are the only places with a dancefloor and escapes the rules, apparently. Majority of the cases have flared up in South West Sydney - eg places that are an hour by train/40 mins by car, so I feel the general population in the city/inner west feel more complacent. Just sign into all venues you do visit with the QR code that's provided, though you'll probably find you won't go out to venues nearly half as much as you did prior.

This is by far the most gently caress up part. I am at the point where I am willing to pay $70-80 to buy two tickets just to get a two-seat table at a show playing music in a genre that I mostly like. But those sort of tables sell out instantly, and 4, 6, 8 seat tables are the only ones that hang around for any length of time. My social life revolved around watching bands and going to social events in bars, and that still isn't happening. Last thing I did was wonder around Mardi Gras in February because I had the sense it would probably be the last thing I'd get to before COVID.

I've been treating the outside world as if we're still going through a new wave anyway, and it's mostly just really annoying being the only person out with a mask on, including food handling staff and grocery workers and such. Of course I was always a homebody so all that's really different for me is the mask, so I might not be the best data point here. But everyone else sure as hell is acting like there was no pandemic.

I guess on the plus side my brothers band played to a packed house last night on their first gig back but he said the vibe was a little off without the crowd up in his poo poo while he masturbates on guitar.
