Yeah, so here's the thing, the perspective makes it looks super weird. Because the front wheels are behind the driver. And behind the camera. I only learned this from driving fire trucks. It's weird but you get used to it right quick.

Lol I figured it was a really short bus with a really good driver, never even crossed my mind that it was sped up.

They just suck when you hit a bump because you get thrown even higher. First time I drove one, I went over a lovely railroad crossing and was unpleasantly surprised. The front visibility and turning radius on the thing were great though.

I’ve got a ton of miles in Japanese cabover vans (Nissan Largo, Homy, Caravan, Mitsubishi L300/Delica, Mazda Bongo, Toyota LiteAce/HiAce) from growing up with one as a family hauler, to riding in friends, renting them to move poo poo, and driving passenger minivans at work, and yeah, if you’ve never driven one it’s a real weird feeling at first, but like someone said above, they do feel surprisingly nimble. Given that the front of the vehicle is literally inches in front of your feet, you can also hurl them around in the city with remarkable precision. Edit: obviously, in tradesman/courier spec, this means you can deftly balance them inches from the rear bumper of the car in front while bouncing off the rev limiter, as befits a company car. The top one was our family ride, in that colour with those steelies, complete with panoramic roof and red velour captains chairs that converted into a bed and factory curtains. JDM as gently caress. Deeters posted:I thought the real version was pretty impressive too: This is a famous mountain road called Irohazaka. There are a total of 48 curves between the separate up and down roads, each corresponding to a character of the basic hiragana characters that make up the Japanese language. (including a few ones that are no longer used) It's about a 2-3 drive from Tokyo, depending on traffic. The way up is dual-lane to allow passing of slower traffic, the way down is single-lane as you see in the bus video. On weekends the dual-lane road up is more of a parking lot with the number of day trippers going to the scenic lake at the top. There's lots of buses of all sizes, as well as lots of cyclists tackling the climb as well. And you better believe the cops keep a good eye on the place. It's not quite the Initial D heaven you might imagine, but a beautiful road nonetheless. You have to go to different mountain passes to find the drift marks.

This article talks about the restoration a bit - http://www.autos.ca/classic-cars/motoring-memories-the-labatt-streamliners-1937-1947/ There were still some restrictions on alcohol advertising in Canada in the period after prohibition. Some beer companies got around this by using extravagantly designed streamliner deliver trucks that got a lot of attention. The restorers of that Labatts truck found an original trailer but couldn't get an original tractor so that one is built from a normal White cabover truck. The reverse engineered the bodywork from photographs and built most of it from scratch. Huge long article about the designer - http://www.coachbuilt.com/des/d/desakhnoffsky/desakhnoffsky.htm

From a stop no way, it's certainly not a drag racing sleeper, more like a sleeper that leaves you in the dust from 55 mph. Even then it probably has issues hooking up, it probably has an LSD in it I'm sure.
