Everyone, including the other anchor, pretty much gave her the benefit of the doubt because from context you could tell she meant like "big palooka" or "this big bozo", that kind of thing, and english was her second language so she genuinely didn't seem to know the connotation, but obviously it was a hot news item for a few days. No where near the level of THIS. If you watch the videoclip the weather guy agrees with her. People suck.
