Also in an incredibly GiP plot twist, the navy later decided Smalls was never actually not a civilian and it literally took an act of congress in 1897 to get him his $30 pension. Meanwhile, the Army has a ship named after him.

pmchem posted:A Castro is still the leader of Cuba Well, If I had to make a guess literally nothing would make Cuban exiles happy on the Cuban question aside from invading Cuba, again. So I'm not sure it's a voting block Democrats could ever appease anyway. I don't believe the "woke internet" has forgotten that Cubans government hasn't really moved it's just Left/Liberals in the US really want us to stop putting our collective dicks in the hornets nest called "Nation Building" and would rather the Cuban question be solved with normalizing relations and other diplomatic options. Which is probably off the table with the same block edit: Much like other issues it'll probably stop being a "thing" when people born before 1960 start dying off. It's been a while, but I had a girlfriend years ago that went on two student trips to Cuba. This was around 2014, so things were kinda chill at the time. For what it's worth, she really enjoyed it. That's about all I remember of it. Cigars she brought back were meh.

A lot of mariners go to visit Cuba, its pretty common. You just can't take a flight from the US or get your passport stamped. If you need a clearance it might be iffy and bringing stuff back can also be tricky since walking through customs loaded with rum and cigars might raise suspicions.
