I've been polishing glass recently and 1800 grit only gets you a kinda cloudy transparency, I need to get some higher numbers but it's also fuckin hard work and it's putting me off big time

Back when I was customizing Xboxes for friends I would usually take the green paint off the big plastic label thing using high grit sandpaper and then rub toothpaste on it to get the transparency back.

Grit chat contribution, my wife's a jeweller and she says they generally go up to 1200 and then it's a polishing wheel after that.

Because it is transparent its a oval office to fill the fine scratches that develop in the surface which affects its overall finish. Polishing clear acrylic on the other hand is a piece of piss cause you can sand it up to 1000 and then hit it with some plastic polish and it comes up as clear on the edge as it is on the surface. It's part of the reason that some people favour acrylic aquariums over glass ones because the joins can all be glued properly and polished to the point that you can see through it edge on.

I took one side of the axe up to 2000 grit today and it's nice but there's still micro scratches and at this point I'm wondering how to get rid of them or whether I should Platter is at 400 grit and got a spray with water to get little fibers to raise up, the grain absolutely blew me away with the water on it. Once it's done (tomorrow in theory) and drug dealer phone is replaced I'll get some proper pics
